Instructional Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Conduct a drill on comparing fractions. How do we compare two given
fractions? Use cross multiplication, then compare using >, <, or =.

4/16 2/3 1/4 5/6 10/2 3/4

2/5 6/15 3/4 5/8

1. Review
a. Checking of assignment
b. Have a review on equivalent fractions.

2. Motivation
Do you help your parents at home?
Elicit from the pupils the importance of helping one’s parents during weekends.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation

During weekends, Zeny helps her mother sell buko juice. For every
buko, Zeny adds 4 litres of water. How many litres of water does she
need for 3 bukos so that the taste will be the same?
What did Zeny and her mother sell?
How many liters of water she adds in every buko?
What kind of a girl is Zeny?
Will you do the same to your mother?
2. Performing the Activities
Let’s help Zeny find the missing term in the problem.
Let the pupils work by pairs. Give them enough time to answer the activity. Let the
pupils show and explain their findings.

Expected answers:

Solution 1 : Making an illustration

A B

The illustration shows that Zeny needs 12 litres of water in 3 bukos.

Solution 2: Let n be the number of litres of water

1:4=3:n Multiplying the means and extremes gives

1n = 4 x 3 Dividing both sides by 1 gives

1n = 4 (3)
12
1 1=

There are 12 liters of water for 3 bukos.

1. Processing the Activities

After presenting the output,
How did you solve for the answer to the problem?
How did you find the activity?
How were you able to find the answers?

Expected answers:
 We used an illustration in solving the problem.
 We determine the means and extremes in the ratio, then do the cross
multiplication.
4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill
Ask pupils to answer A and B exercises under Get Moving, pages ____ LM
Math Grade 5. For further practice, give the exercises under Keep Moving on
page ____, LM Math Grade 5.

5. Summarizing the Lesson

How do you find the missing term in a pair of equivalent fraction?

In finding the missing term in a pair of equivalent fraction, first

determine the means and extremes in the ratio then do the cross
multiplication. Divide the both side by the number

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

Let the pupils do the exercises under Apply Your Skills on page ____, LM
Math Grade 5.

C. Assessment
A. Find the missing term:
1) 4 n 4) 10 12
7 14 5 n

2) n 5 5) n 20
8 20 6 24

3) 3 9
n 12

B. Write a proportion then solve for the missing term.

14 girls to 5 boys ; how many boys to 28 girls
3 batteries to 1 flashlight, how many batteries to 4 flashlights
5 mangoes for Php 18; how much for 15 mangoes
D. Home Activity
Remediation
Find the missing term to make the proportion true.
1) 9 : N = 27 : 15
2) N : 8 = 12 : 32
3) 5 : 3 = 25 : N

Complete the sentences.

1) Ten books is to 5 pupils as _______ books is to 15 pupils.
2) Three bananas for Php 4.00 as 12 bananas for _______.
3) Seven boy scouts to a tent as 42 boy scouts to _____ tents.
