1. How were the "taga-bayan" during the US colonialism?

During the US colonialism, "taga-bayans," who are the ilustrados of Cavite, were the
upper social classes. They were the ones who were tasked by Emilio Aguinaldo to create
the draft of the Philippine Constitution in the First Philippine Republic, the Malolos
Congress. Thus, making them essential in the government setting aside the "taga-bukids."
2. What has the culture prevailed during the era of US colonialism?
The following culture was prevailed during the era of US colonialism and is concerning
the taga-bukids: they owed their intellectual and emotional allegiance to the culture of
colonizers. The culture was initially due to the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic,
which leads to taga-bukids being shunned by the ilustrados, which then leads to the last
factor of making the ilustrados abandon the taga-bukids.
3. What is Sedation Law? Do you think it helped the Filipinos acknowledge their
identity?
According to the reading, Sedation Law punishes those who are guilty of the death
penalty or long-time imprisonment to those who advocated independence or separation
from the United States and those who supported (scurrilous libels) against it. With this, I can
say that yes, it helped the Filipinos acknowledge their identity because they have known
that no one should control us and that we have to stand firm as one Filipino, as one country.
4. Describe the political leaders at the time of US colonialism. Do you think they
continued defending our land? Why or why not?
During US colonialism, the leaders were made to evict those who are against their way
of leadership. This type of leadership skill makes me think that no, they did not continue
defending our lands because they feel more of themselves as higher ones who get to
controlled people. They made themselves too self-centered, wherein they care more about
their name rather than protecting those they should save. This opinion can be supported by
the reading phrase, which states that the Philippines' independence must be secured within
the colonial system's limits.
5. What was the focus of the Philippine literature at the time of US colonialism?
Our literature focuses on writers sharing their common concerns brought by their
historical experiences during the US colonialism. Young writers of that time firmly grasped
the literary forms during the Spanish period, namely allegorical dramas, patriotic-themed
write-ups, essays, novels, and narrative poetry. Writers were inspired by doing these works
during the Revolution and the Propaganda Movement as they continue the struggle against
the US.
