NATIONAL NEWS
Induction of first set of five Rafale fighter Jets

• The first set of five Rafale aircrafts landed in Ambala Air Base in Haryana to join IAF’s team.

• Jodhpur air base was taken as an alternate option in case of any kind of emergency.

• On 27th July, five Rafale jets took off from Merignac airbase in Bordeaux, France to join the IAF.

• As the jets entered the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), stealth destroyer INS (Indian Naval Ship)
Kolkata, deployed in the Western Arabian Sea, as a part of welcoming procedure.

• The Rafale fighters were escorted by two Sukhoi 30 MKIs after they entered the Indian air space

• Notably, Rafale is the first imported fighter to be inducted into Service since the Sukhoi-30s from
Russia in the late 90s.

• The Ambala airbase also houses two squadrons of the Jaguar fighters and one squadron of MiG-
21 Bison. Hasimara in West Bengal will house the second Rafale squadron.

• The aircrafts were refueled by two French Air Force tanker aircraft mid air (One of them is carrying
ventilators and test kits with a team of 10 health experts to support India to combat against Covid-

• The fighter jets covered a distance of about 7,000 km from France to India and took a single halt
throughout the journey in an airbase in the UAE.

• The Dassault Rafale (literally meaning "gust of wind" and "burst of fire" in a more military sense) is
a French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault
Aviation. The Rafale is referred to as an "omni role" aircraft by Dassault.

National Clinical Registry of COVID-19 Patients
• The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with

AIIMS, is creating a new rigorous database of COVID-19 patients,
admitted across the country with the aim of improving treatment in
hospitals.

• The database, titled as National clinical registry for COVID-19


patients, will also act as a platform to conduct clinical trials and study
its response against the deadly virus.

• At present, a total of 15 institutions will create a network to implement


the project.
Niti Aayog’s Delta Ranking of Aspirational districts for Feb-June 2020
• In accordance with the delta rankings for aspirational districts by government think-tank Niti (National Institution for
Transforming India) Aayog, Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh has topped the list of aspirational districts in Overall Delta
Ranking for the February-June 2020 period.

• Bijapur has been followed by Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya) and Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) at 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

• The delta rankings for aspirational districts considers an incremental progress in five developmental areas viz. Health and
Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Water Resources, Financial Inclusion & Skill Development and Basic Infrastructure.

• In the Health and Nutrition area, the list has been topped by Ri-Bhoi (Meghalaya) and followed by Bijapur (Chhattisgarh)
and Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) at 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, stating an improvement towards quality healthcare
facilities for citizens.

• In Education category, the list has been topped by Damoh (Madhya Pradesh) followed by Dhalai (Tripura) and Asifabad or
Adilabad (Telangana), stating an improvement towards quality Education for citizens.

• In Basic Infrastructure category, the list has been topped by Khagaria (Bihar) followed by Araria (Bihar) & Purnia (Bihar).

• In Agriculture & Water Resource Category, the list has been topped by Nawada (Bihar) followed by Pakur (Jharkhand) &
Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh).

• In Financial Inclusion & Skill Development Category, the list has been topped by Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh) followed by

• The PFC (Power Finance Corporation) signed an agreement with the Indian

Institute of Technology- Kanpur (IIT-K) in order to provide training, research and
Entrepreneurship Development (ED) in Smart grid technology.

• To provide support for the IIT-Kanpur to develop the infrastructure of the research
and development on smart grid technology.

• The PFC will provide financial assistance of Rs. 2.38 crore to the IIT-K under its
CSR initiative.

• The IIT-K provides training in smart grid technology to 90 participants.


Green-Ag project launched in Mizoram to bring transformative change in the
farm sector
• Green-Agriculture, a project funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) was launched in Mizoram

• Objective of Green-Ag:
➢ Green-Ag projects aims at accelerating the transformation of Indian agriculture sector into national and international
benefits by Greenland management practices, concerns of biodiversity and climate change.
➢ The primary goals are to achieve national and Global environmental benefits without compromising food security and
farmers income.
➢ To mainstream the conservation of critical biodiversity and forest landscapes by transforming agricultural practices of

to join ashram and ended as a beggar. She passes her years as a homeless artist with

Kerala announced CM’s Entrepreneurship Development Program
to address working capital shortage
• Kerala government announced a new scheme namely “Chief Minister’s Entrepreneurship
Development Program” to address the issues of shortage of working capital and availability of

credit faced by startups and small entrepreneurs amid COVID-19 pandemic. The program will be
implemented through the Kerala Financial Corporation

• Eligible firms would get loans up to Rs 10 crore as working capital on the basis of purchase orders
already received.

• Companies coming up with innovative need- based products or services would be eligible for an
assistance of Rs 1 crore and IT firms that have been approved by SEBI-accredited venture capital
funds would get Rs 10 crore.

• KFC will provide loans up to 90% of the project cost subject to a maximum of Rs 50 lakh at 10%
interest.

• The government will give 3% interest as subsidy thereby; the net interest rate will be 7%.

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved the 3 Million USD (about Rs.22 Crore)
from the ADB’s Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF) to India to support the

• The amount was financed by Japanese government.

• Other ADB funds and initiatives:

➢ As a part of the 20 million USD expanded assistance for the developing member
countries’ pandemic response announced on 13th April 2020, COVID-19 pandemic
response option (CPRO) was established under the ADB’s Countercyclical Support
Facility.

➢ To Support India’s immediate COVID-19 response efforts like disease containment


and prevention ADB approved a 1.5 Billion USD COVID-19 Active Response and
Expenditure Support (CARES) Program on 28th April 2020

sex.

• About Bombay Flying Club

➢ The Bombay Flying Club is the oldest flying club in India. It is located at the Juhu aerodrome, Bombay (Mumbai).

➢ It was incorporated on 29 May 1928, and commenced instructions on 13 January 1929 when they received their
first two De Havilland Moth aircraft, presented to them by the Government of India. A third aircraft, A D.H. Moth
(Gipsy) was won by the Club as prize offered by Sir Charles Wakefield to the first Indian flying club which should
turn out 12 qualified pilots, of whom at least six were to be Indians. The Club used these aircraft for tuition, joy-
rides, and air travel. The activities of the club were, unfortunately, limited by the fact that the aerodrome at
Juhu was not suitable during the monsoon. This problem was solved by 1937. The Club received its license to
build a hangar and garages at the aerodrome on 17 August 1931.
