Mission Planner

Quick Guide for Nimbo One

To be able to upload you mission, first you have to establish connection to the aircraft
(via USB or telemetry radios).

Select proper communication port and baud rate from drop down menus in the top right
corner of the screen.

For USB connection COM port: PX4 FMU and Baud rate 115200 bit/should be selected.

For Telemetry connection COM port will not be named. The connection speed (Baud rate)
should be set to 57600 bit/s.

After setting these parameters click Connect button and wait for connection to be established.
It may take a few minutes.

Select Flight plan section (from the menubar in the top left corner) in order to create a
mission.

Find the area on the map you want to fly in.

To navigate; click + drag mouse to pan the map. Zoom by moving the zoom slider 

(right side of the screen).

The map center is marked by the red cross (+ sign).

In the Action menu to the right of the screen you are able to read the map coordinates (latitude,
longitude and altitude) of the mouse position and the home location.
The green pin represent your current Home location.

> Click + drag the pin to place a new Home location.

In the field:
It is possible to automatically set your home location by clicking the Home Location link.

Draw a polygon around the area you want to fly.

> Right click the map and select Start Polygon Drawing Mode from the drop down menu.

To add polygon point:
> Click mouse to add as many Polygon points you need to define the area of interest.

To move polygon point:


> Click + drag Polygon point.

To delete polygon point:


> Right click Polygon point and select Delete WP from the drop down menu.

> Right click the map and select Plan Mission from the drop down menu to activate the tool
that will help you to configure your mission.

Now the Path Planner tool should be used to plan the main part of the mission.
It will automatically plot the course of your aircraft over the area of interest.

Flight pattern can be manually adjusted and optimized.

Main parameters:

Altitude (Simple tab)


Desired altitude of the overflight mission.

Angle (Simple tab)


Direction of the main overflight lines.

Overlap (Grid Options tab)


Amount of the overlap in the pictures taken during the flight.

Sidelap (Grid Options tab)


Amount of the sidelap in the pictures taken during the flight.

> Click Accept to export the way-points to the main flight planing window.

Flight data window helps you to track the status of the mission in real time. All the parameters
that are transmitted from the aircraft are displayed here. You can also send the commands to
the aircraft to change or interrupt the mission.

HUD (heads-up display) 



Displays the main flight parameters.

Control panel 

Allows you to control the aircraft during the mission.

Map area

Shows the position of the aircraft and the other mission items (way-points, etc.)

Mission configuration is now completed and the mission can be uploaded to the aircraft.

Keep in mind that landing waypoint is automatically placed at your home location and may be
adjusted manually if necessary.

> Click Upload Mission (Write WPs) button to upload way-points to the aircraft.

Verify that no errors occurred while uploading mission.

Geo-referencing images

Mission Planner provides you with a tool for geo-referencing images taken during flight. To be
able to use this tool, you first have to download a flight log from the flight computer.

Connect the flight control computer and ground station computer via an USB cable. Select
Download flight log from the Control panel.

Select the flight logs of interest and click Download Selected Logs.
The flight logs will be saved in the logs directory of Mission Planner.

Transfer the images from the camera’s memory card to your computer.

Select Geo ref image from the Control panel.

> Click Browse Log and select the log that you downloaded earlier.

> Click Browse Pictures and select a folder that contains pictures taken during the flight
(pictures must be in TIF or JPG format).

> Click Pre-process to generate geo-reference reports. Reports contains picture file names,
location and orientation information that can be used by mapping software later).

After pre-processing, GeoTag Images button will become active and it can be used to save
geo-information in the image metadata.

Pre-downloading maps

Mission planer has a tool for downloading maps, that later can be used during offline mission
planing and flights.

> Click Alt + drag mouse to define the area you want to download. If no area is defined,
currently visible area will be downloaded.

> Right click the map and select Map Tool > Prefetch.

Select the zoom level.

Wait for the download process to finish.
