ICAS Assessments for different year levels can be identified by the letter in the name of the
assessment e.g. 2019 ICAS English: A is the ICAS English paper for Year 3 (Australia). The equivalent
year levels for each country can be found on the front cover of this booklet.
Preparation
1. Ensure your participating students are informed of the sitting date. The official sitting dates can
be found at www.unswglobal.unsw.edu.au/educational-assessments/products/icas-
assessments/
2. Check that all the devices that will be used have met the technical requirements. Information on
these requirements can be found at www.unswglobal.unsw.edu.au/educational-assessments/
support/technical-requirements/. Ensure students have access to a compatible device.
3. You should have received an email with instructions to access the UNSW Global Assessment
Platform. If you haven’t received the email, contact the ICAS Assessments coordinator at your
school.
4. Print the student logins (you can print logins from your Teacher dashboard – see Appendix 2 of the
ICAS Assessments User Guide: Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics and Science). Students
login at unsw.global/start to access the UNSW Global Online Assessment Platform. All student
passwords are case sensitive. Students can click on the eye icon to ‘show password’ when typing in
the password field.
5. Students may use blank paper for planning and working out; however this will not be submitted with
their assessment.
Go to unsw.global/start and login. On the teacher dashboard click on ‘Administer Current Takers’ to be directed
to the ‘Test Sessions Administration’ screen. This screen allows you to monitor your students as they progress
through the test.
When all students are seated say:
You are going to complete an ICAS English assessment. The first thing you need to do is to type in the
URL unsw.global/start . Then type your user name and password. Check the correct test is visible on your
dashboard.
If a student has not reached the last question, they can click on the grid next to the question number to access
the ‘Finish’ button.
Check that every student has submitted their test. Do this by clicking on ‘Administer Current Takers’ from
the Teacher dashboard.
Click the checkbox next to any student who has not submitted and the click ‘Submit Student’.*

AFTER ADMINISTERING ICAS ONLINE
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
On the teacher dashboard click on ‘Administer Current Takers’ to be taken to the ‘Test Sessions
Administration’ screen where you will be able to fix the most commonly occurring issues.
Issue Solution
1. Student’s device briefly The student will appear locked on the ‘Test Sessions Administration’ screen. The

2. Student’s device A student can access the UNSW Global Assessment Platform from another computer

when the connection has been restored. The students will see the last question they
were on when the session was paused. If the teacher has also lost their connection
then they should consult with the IT support person at their school. If the connection
is not restored on the test day the ICAS Assessments coordinator at the school should
be contacted for possible rescheduling.
