Speech Title : Let’s Swim!

General Purpose : To persuade
Specific Purpose : To persuade my friends to make swimming as an exercise
Central Idea : Swimming is a great exercise that can help you release stress and
having fun at the same time and therefore, we should give
swimming a shot.

When was the last time all of you jump into the pool and swim? Do you think you
need a relief from lectures, tests and assignments? Our lives as students mostly evolves
around attending lectures, preparing for tests and meeting deadlines for assignments. All of
these academic activities can bring stress and prolonged stress, which can be dangerous for
our health. I have noticed that many of us here make frequent trips to the university clinic or
are on medication almost every other day. That is unhealthy.
Good morning my friends. The title of my speech is “Let’s Swim!”. Today, I hope to
persuade each of you to make swimming as your ideal match. I am one of those students who
find university life as stressful and in order to overcome stress, I to go swim either in the pool
or at sea. They are fun.
Swimming is one of the most popular recreational activities all over the world. The
nice thing about swimming is that it’s a relatively low-maintenance, low-cost sport to take up.
Besides, the number of injuries associated with swimming is comparatively lesser than other
sports. Swimming can be tiring for beginners but they are exciting. In order to release our
stress, swimming is the best option as it is very beneficial for us. Let’s take a look at the
stress faced by university students.
University students face stress due to many factors. Students’ lives are dedicated to
academic related activities mainly. Our life routine is attending lectures every day from 8 to 6
and then going for non-academic activities like club or hostel activities. Other than that,
students also need to face expectation of their parents where they only concern about the
academic achievements. So basically, we have no time to relax or even to chill. So, what is
the solution?
You just need to go to any public pool or water park and swim. Spending time near
water can be similar to meditation, in that it gives the brain a break from the constant
overstimulation students often experience in university life. Swimming also can bring you
closer to nature. If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean or a lake, opting to swim in a
natural body of water could be even better for your health. Studies show that spending time in
nature can improve your mental and physical well-being by reducing stress and boosting your
mood. But, what are the benefits of swimming?
Swimming is low impact. Unlike jogging, swimming is a way to fit cardio into your
workout routine without putting stress in your bones, joint and muscles. Swimming also can
speeds up recovery. Though it’s a low-impact workout, swimming can also help relieve aches
and pains. If you are suffering from a bad back or knee pain, swimming could be just the
exercise you need to take the pressure off.
In conclusion, swimming are beneficial and we should opting it in order to relieve our
stress.
