Process Analyzer Sample Systems (PASS) Training

The proper design and implementation of sample systems for process analyzers is
critical to their successful installation. It is estimated that more than 80% of the
issues that occur with analyzer installations are sample system related. Frequently,
new projects become “copy and paste” versions of old projects, even though there
were serious design flaws from the start.
The PASS course teaches engineers, systems designers and technicians the critical
success factors for designing a system which will be both functional and
maintainable in the field. It focuses on core concepts and fundamental science
behind the design criteria, as well as presenting commonly implemented and
proven solutions to many process monitoring needs. Based on this fundamental
knowledge, the student learns how to design and optimize process analyzer sample
systems as well as how to improve performance of existing installations.

Program Goals
This five-day intensive course covers all relevant aspects of analyzer sample system
design and includes lectures, in-class exercises, class projects and Q/A periods.

Learn how a sampling system functions

from the process line and tap through the
transport lines and stream switching,
sample conditioning, analyzer and disposal
processes.

How to identify the root cause of issues

related to system design.

Engineering principles, formulas and

calculations that are the basis for sound
sampling system design.

How to optimize your sampling system,

prevent sampling system errors, and
ensure accurate process analyzer
readings.

Course content is derived from Industrial Sampling Systems, a technical

reference book authored by Tony Waters and provided to all students.
