Learning activity 4

Evidence: Consolidation activity

Stage 1: The person I admire the most

A. What to do?

Write a biography of the person you admire the most. This person can be, for
example, a public figure, a celebrity, a politician, a world leader or someone
close to you, a relative.

Note: The person you choose cannot be the same chosen for Evidence 3
of this learning activity.

B. How to do it?

You need to carry out some research in order to collect the necessary
information for writing the biography. If the person chosen is a public figure,
you can surf the web in order to get the details you are going to include. On
the contrary, if the person chose is someone you know personally, you can set
up an interview in order to ask the person the questions you may have about
his / her life.

Here is an outline we suggest following for writing the biography. We have

chosen Charles Darwin (public figure), an influential scientist of the
nineteenth century, as example for the outline.

INTRODUCTION

Next one of the artists who has and continues to be the most influential in the
world will be announced.

Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock N Roll, with his music and dance
highlighted in the music industry.

His legacy left great trajectories in his personal and professional life, great songs
known and danced.

Here he left a brief history of who was the King of Rock N Roll.
ELVIS PRESLEY

1. Born

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. His parents
were Vernon Elvis Presley (at that time 18 years old) and Gladys Love Presley
(born Smith, 22 years old).

Presley's ancestry is a mixture of Western Europe: his mother's side was Scottish
and Irish, with some Franco-Norman, one of Gladys' great-great-granddaughters
was Cherokee.
2. Early Age of Elvis Presley

In September 1941 he began the first grade at the Tupelo Consolidated East
School, where his teachers consider themselves "average". During his stay at the
institute, he was encouraged to participate in a singing competition after having
impressed his teacher during the morning prayers with an interpretation of the
country-style song by Red Foley singer "Old Shep".

The contest, held at the Mississippi-Alabama Dairy Fair and Fair on October 3,
1945, was her first public appearance: cowboy dress, a ten-year-old girl climbed
on a chair to reach the microphone and sang "Old Shep." The singer
remembered having achieved fifth place.

As a great follower of the Mississippi Slim show on the Tupelo WELO radio
station, Presley was usually described as "crazy about music" by Slim's younger
brother, Presley's partner.
3. Teenage Life

In November of 1948 the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. After living for
almost a year in guest houses, they were guaranteed a two-bedroom apartment
in the public housing complex known as The Courts.

As a student at Hume’s High School, Presley only earned grade C grades in

eighth grade. When his music teacher told him he had no singing skills, the next
day, he brought his guitar and sang a recent hit Keep Them Cold Icy Fingers off
Me.

In his last year at school, he used them.35 He finally overcame his reluctance to
play Hume’s annual singing show in April 1953. Singing and playing the guitar,
he opened the latter with Till I Waltz Again with You, a recent success of Teresa
Brewer.

Presley, who had never received formal music lessons, studied and played by
ear. He frequented record stores with gramophones and knew all the songs of
Hank Snow, although he also loved the songs of other country singers such as
Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Ted Daffan, Jimmie Rodgers, Jimmie Davis and Bob
Wills.
4. Elvis Presley First Realised Songs

In 1953 Elvis began to explore the possibilities of singing professionally. In

August he entered the offices of the local label Sun Records to record a self-
produced single, with two tracks, "My Happiness" and “That’s When Your
Heartaches Begin". He said the idea was to give it to his mother. In January of
1954 he recorded a second single with the songs "I will never stand in your way"
and "It would not be the same without you", although it did not finish blunting.

Shortly after auditions for the vocal quartet of "The Songfellows", although it was
finally not accepted. Instead he started working as a trucker to earn money.

In 1954, along with guitarist Scotty Moore and bass Bill Black, they recorded a
demo with two songs: Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and "That's All
Right", a 1946 blues by Arthur Crudup.
5. Elvis Presley New Realised Songs

Some consider it the soundtrack of the documentary of the same name, but that
is not all true. Composed of eight songs recorded at the RCA studios and four
more live at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Elvis still seems to keep the
"From Elvis in Memphis" slipstream and bills an excellent work, often not
recognized enough. Supported by musicians of the level of James Burton, Chip
Young or Charlie McCoy, the included subjects maintain that inclination towards
something more soul and more southern of that time of their race.

After the success of "Elvis Presley" a few months before, RCA does not waste
time and returns to take out a long duration of Tupelo. Recorded in three days of
the beginning of September, in the month of October it already populates the
shelves of all the record stores that are preferential while the teenagers are killed
to take home that acetate that included songs like 'Rit It Up', 'Long Tall Sally ','
Love Me ',' Ready Teddy 'or' So Glad You're Mine '. Of course it was number 1 of
the "Billboard" lists.
6. Elvis Presley Adult Life

In March of 1957 he acquired the mansion of Graceland, in the city of Memphis,

which would eventually become a place of pilgrimage for his countless admirers.
In 1958, at the height of his career, he was called up by the army and assigned to
West Berlin, where he met Priscilla Ann Beaulieu, with whom he would marry
nine years later.

Elvis Presley graduated in March 1960 and immediately resumed his artistic
activity, to chain a long series of numbers one on the US charts with titles like It's
now or never or Are you lonesome tonight, and star in no less than ten films,
among which are Girls, Girls, Girls (Girls, Girls, 1962) and Viva Las Vegas
(1964).

In the second half of the decade began the so-called «British Invasion», starring
groups like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. This led to some erosion in the
popularity of the singer, aggravated by an apparent artistic crisis that lasted until
1968, when he was offered to star in a television special that became one of the
greatest successes in the history of the small screen.

8. Marriage

In September 1959, Priscilla met at a party for the musician, Elvis Presley in Bad
Nauheim, Germany, and after a while, a romantic relationship, an initial
relationship with her parents, who at that time was younger than the age.

When their courtship was made public, the parents of the young woman
authorized her to live with life in the land of the earth. On May 1, 1967, they got
married. On February 1, 1968, the couple's first and only daughter, Lisa Marie
Presley, was born.

The couple divorced in October 1973, after six years and a half of marriage, they
agreed to share custody of their daughter. The singer had to pay his ex-wife $
725,000 in cash, agreed to give him 5% of the profits generated by their clubs,
movies and marketing products and grant a child support that both have in
common.
9. Elvis Presley death

Presley had been scheduled to fly out of Memphis on the night of August 16,
1977, with a view to starting another tour. That afternoon, Alden found him
unconscious on the floor of his bathroom. Given this, the doctors tried to revive
him, however they did not succeed. The death of the singer was made public
officially at 3:30 p.m. m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Elvis Presley died in
Memphis at the age of 42, because of an acute myocardial infarction.

Presley's funeral took place in Graceland on Thursday, August 18, 1977. At the
funeral, outside the residence, a car attacked a group of fans, killing two women
and severely injuring a third person.

An estimated 80,000 people participated in the procession to the Forest Hill

Cemetery, where Presley was buried next to his mother.
ARGUMENTS

I decided to choose Elvis Presley so that he was a very successful

musician and was a great influence for the great Rock N Roll
bands that exist today.

He always wanted to fight for his family and he did so until the last
of his days.

CONCLUSION

This activity was done with purpose of learning and getting to
