It is considered an important equipment product for any player, the market has increased
since 2019, the market will reach a fairly representative figure at the end of the period of
2020-2029, its world price is a growing trend from 312 USD / K Unit in 2012 to 382 USD / K
Unit in 2016. The huge increase in 2014 and 2015 is largely due to the introduction of
seamless table tennis balls. The global market for table tennis balls is expected to grow at a
compound annual rate of approximately 9.1% over the next five years, reaching USD 290
million in 2024 from USD 170 million in 2019, according to a new study.
The ball is spherical, has a diameter of 40 mm and weighs 2.7 g. It will be made of celluloid
or a similar plastic material. The ITTF authorizes only orange or white balls with a matte
shade.25 The markings can vary widely, depending on the manufacturer. By 2015, the ITTF
has approved 74 models of balls for use in competitions.

The initial ITTF regulations of December 1926 stated that the ball should have a
circumference of between 4.5 and 4.75 inches (approximately 36 to 38 mm in diameter).26
Following the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, from October of that year, in order to slow down
the speed of play and make it more attractive to spectators and television broadcasters,27
the ITTF increased the diameter of the ball from 38 to 40 mm.
