Bihar exit polls give RJD-led alliance edge, show Nitish door

Exit polls telecast Saturday evening by major television networks after the final phase of
voting for the Assembly elections in Bihar, which recorded a provisional voter turnout of
56.41% over three phases.

It predicted that the ruling JD(U)-BJP alliance led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was
on its way out.

While one poll forecast that the RJD-led Opposition alliance could get a two-thirds
majority, another said it would cross the halfway mark comfortably.

Images of campaigning in Bihar have suggested scant regard for what continues to be a
raging Covid-19 pandemic.

An HT analysis and expert views suggest that Bihar’s dubious testing strategy and poor
medical infrastructure, combined with the time lag that could exist between a spread in
infections and showing up of actual cases, could make it difficult to ascertain the impact
of the polls on the pandemic.

As the verdict on the election of the next government in Bihar is scheduled for 9th Nov.,
Tuesday, there are challenges that face the next ruling dispensation such as Covid-19.

After falling steadily since mid-September, the weekly count of Covid-19 cases and
deaths registered a slight increase this week ahead of Diwali celebrations in India.

Covid brought Biden in US and may bring Tejasvi like guy in Bihar. Wait and see.
