WHEELBARROW

Steel wheelbarrow buckets can bear more weight, but they can rust and
are heavier to deal with. Steel wheelbarrows are used for heavy duty jobs such as
moving rocks, bricks, etc .
Plastic wheelbarrow buckets are lighter and they are usually less expensive
than steel, but they can crack from too much weight, extreme temperature
fluctuations or improper handling. Plastic wheelbarrows are used for moving
mulch, compost, garden debris and smaller plants. Plastic is also better for mixing
things like concrete or fertilizers and hauling cow manure, as these things can
damage steel.
There are also wheelbarrows that hold different capacities or volume. In
the U.S., these are usually available with a 2-square foot to 6-square foot (.18 to .
55 sq. m.) (capacity, 3-square feet (.28 sq. m.) being the most common. These
wheelbarrows may also be labelled to carry 300-500 lbs. (136 – 227 kg.).
Elsewhere, wheelbarrows are often sold as holding 60 - 120 L., with 100 L. being
most common.

LEVER

It has been found by experiment that two equal forces acting in opposite
directions, i.e., clockwise and counter clockwise, and applied to a uniform lever at
equal distances from the fulcrum counteract each other and establish a state
of equilibrium , or balance, in the lever.
Experiment has also shown that two unequal forces when acting in
opposite directions will bring about an equilibrium when the product of the
magnitude of one force and its effort arm, or lever arm (the distance of its point
of application from the fulcrum), is equal to the product of the magnitude of the
other force and its effort arm.
In physics the product of a force by its effort arm is called a moment of the
force; the general conclusion known as the principle of moments states that
equilibrium is established when the sum of the moments of the forces acting in a
clockwise direction is equal to the sum of the moments of the forces acting in a
counter clockwise direction. It is possible, as a result, to overcome a very large
force at a short distance from the fulcrum with a very small force at a great
distance from the fulcrum. Archimedes is supposed to have boasted, having the
lever in mind, that given a place to stand he could move the world.

TYRE
Tyre (or tire) is a circular and ring-like part of a vehicle which comes in
contact with ground. Tyres are fitted on rims and are filled with compressed air.
Since their invention, natural rubber is the most widely used material in
manufacturing of tyres. However, modern tyres also employ materials like
synthetic rubber, fabric, steel wires, carbon black and some more compounds.
Tyres find place in wide range of locomotives, from bicycles to aeroplanes.

GAS SPRING/ GAS STRUTS
Gas springs are hydropneumatic adjustment elements. Gas springs consist
of a pressure tube and a piston rod with a piston unit. Connection parts to the
pressure tube and the piston rod allow for the suitable connection for your
application.
The gas spring is filled with non-toxic nitrogen under high pressure. This
produces a charging pressure that acts on the cross-sectional area of the piston
rod. This generates the extension force. If the extension force of the gas spring is
higher than the force of the counterweight, the piston rod extends. If the
extension force is lower, then the piston rod retracts. The flow cross-section in
the damping system determines how quickly the extension occurs. In addition to
nitrogen, there is a defined amount of oil in the interior for lubrication and end
position damping. The suspension comfort of a pneumatic spring can be
determined as needed and for the respective task.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE FORCE REQUIRED FOR A GAS SPRING

If you wish to fix gas spring to a new application then please see our free design
service. We can specify the correct gas spring, mounting locations and brackets
for your application. As well as helping you to order a strut, we can also re-gas
your old spring .
Take a look at our supply of adjustable gas spring  - they allow you to vent gas
from the strut (lowering its force) once it has been mounted, until the exact force
required is achieved. This is often a better option than using fixed force gas spring
for a one-off application. See our adjustment instructions for further information.

GAS SPRINGS LIFT CALCULATOR

There are a large number of applications for gas struts. Whether you would like to
add some spring to your Ottoman bed, fix a roof light, campervan bonnet or roof
box, a different calculation will be required for each new gas strut application.

Configure your gas strut yourself with our gas spring force calculator.

Gas Strut Force Calculation

A gas strut calculator will take into account the direction of operation for the
particular application, the operating arm, the weight and force relation.

Use our gas strut force calculation formula below to work out the force needed.

(d) distance from the hinge is recommended at approximately 20% of the panel
length. (F) weight is the mass in Kg multiplied by 10.
