Catfish Becomes Major Commodities

BeritaPagi News, Jakarta – The government will make catfish as one of the main commodities
that will be maximized for Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency. Coordinator of Minister for maritime
Indroyo Susilo said that the election of catfish as the mainstay because catfish is a fish that contain
lots of nutrients with cheap price.

“Even though Catfish is the cheapest, it has a lot of animal protein,” he said after a meeting at
his office, Jakarta, Thursday (29/01/2015).

Moreover, Indroyono said that catfish has been well known even to the European continent.
“We can sell to Europe,” he added. Besides catfish, he also would make other fisheries
commodities such as shrimp, grouper, red snapper, tilapia and catfish as the main commodity.

He also said that the government has targeted Indonesian aquaculture production should reach
31.3 million tons. To achieve these targets, the government must meet a few things that could support
aquaculture. For the cultivation needs 7 things that must be met, namely, location, seed, feed,
medicine, technology and markets. (Amd / NRM)

A Solution for TKI Problem

BeritaPagi News, Jakarta – Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said that the cause of many
Indonesian workers (TKI) who look for job in other countries is due to the lack of industrial
and agricultural sector’s growth in our country. He also added that if the sector is growing, it can
create jobs vacancy and absorb a lot of labor in Indonesia.

“Many migrant workers (Labor Women) seeking work abroad because of lack of our
agriculture and industry. In fact, 1 hectare (ha) of agriculture can give job for 5 people
maximum, while 1 hectare of industry can absorb 100 labor,” he said in Dharmawangsa, South
Jakarta, Thursday (29/01/2015).

Therefore, agriculture and industry sector are a very important. In addition to making a lot of jobs
vacancy, both these sectors could also stimulate economic growth.

However, to develop these sectors need the availability of infrastructure and sufficient capital. That is
what is being built by the government now. “We need Infrastructure and capital to develop both
