    Surah Nur

    The surah was revealed in Madinah.


    Nur means Light.
    It is named as surah Nur as it consists of the verse- Ayat un Noor “Allah is the
    Light of Heaven and Earth” as it consists of rules and morals that calls for chastity
    and modesty.
    Background:
    Surah Nur is in 24th chapter of Quran and consists of 64 verses.
    This surah was revealed shortly before or after Battel of Trench. It was revealed
    mainly after the Slander against Hazrat Ayesha.
    Themes:
     Laws against moral crimes
     Allah's commandment to help slaves in getting their freedom.
     The fact that Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.
