6.1 In general System Overview

„The NiMH rechargeable battery“:

For the Space pumps and the Space Station (inside the Cover) as
well as for the Space Com the same Nickel Metal Hydride
rechargeable battery are available.
This battery allows an operation time of up to 10 hours (without
SpCom) respectively 2 hour (with SpCom) (see IFU).
Even in battery operation modus SpaceCom has full functionality.

Advantages of NiMH to NiCd:

• Higher capacity at same housing size
• Minimal memory effect
• Longer life time
• No heavy metal (Cadmium) inside
7

6.1 In general System Overview

Battery:
• The Space Station battery (inside Sp.
Sp Cover) is only to
supply/buffer the Space Station
• Without mains every single pump is using its own battery
• When Space Station battery (actually Space Cover battery) is
inactive in transport situation, one single pump with the highest
battery voltage will buffer the Space Station data's (e.g. address
organization).

4
6.1 In general System Overview

The CAN bus (Controlled Area Network):

1. Only when the CAN is detecting a vis-à-vis it is opening its

interface, otherwise it protects itself against environment
2. The CAN bus has to be closed with a 120 Ohm resistor (e.g.
Space Cover)
3. The alarm indication is realized via CAN
4. One part of the CAN address is the serial number of the pump.

A self test is starting automatically during start up:

• The three LED areas at the front side are tested
 beneath the red LED´s there is the brightness sensor to check
physically the LED function and to dim the light when the
surrounding gets darker
• The status indicators of Space Station and Space Com are tested
• The loudspeaker is tested

If one of the side alarm indicator is defect the red front alarm LED
flashes and the lateral red status LED is illuminated
