DRUMSHAFT
Replace damaged cooling water hoses – DS.
Replace both High and Low drive chains.
Replace all Transmissions chains.
Monitor the Low sprocket bearings, with emphasis on regular grease applications, and
ensuring that all grease fittings are accepting grease.
Replace all the Caliper Support Arm seals.
Replace all Hydraulic hoses from the Brake cylinders to the HPU.
Repair all poor fitting covers. Ensure all fasteners are in place and functional.
Install good quality gasketing to eliminate oil leaks. NOV do not recommend the use of
Silicone Sealants.
Replace/repair grease lines to the Main bearings DS and ODS, and Positive Low Clutch ring.
Grease all greasing points with enough quantity.
Replace Friction Discs, Backing Plate, Centre Plate and Springs. Utilize a good quality dry
lubricant on the Ring and Hub gear teeth.
Align the Baylor Brake.
Strip down and replace the Friction Disc’s, Centre Plate, Back Plate and Spring set in the Low
Clutch. Use Dry Lubrication on all the gear teeth at assembly.
Replace the High Clutch Drum at a scheduled maintenance period.
Install the Coring Reel Brake Arm.
Change the Drawworks oil at a convenient scheduled maintenance period, with the
recommended oil grade. SAE 40 or the equivalent.
HPU
Replace the faulty PRV.
Replace the Primary Pump.
Replace hydraulic hoses.
Replace the hydraulic oil and filters.
Replace/calibrate all the gauges on the Drillers console, ensuring correct scaling.
Replace/calibrate the gauges on the manifold with correct scaling.

Early morning pick‐up with Universal agent and transfer to Kakinada Port.

Meet with Rig Management and discuss the SOW.

Monitor the preparations to remove the TDS.

Arranged for a tap to be modified to fit in the space available.
Assembled the drive chains in front of the drawworks. Marked out the links needing
attention.
Fitted the DS and ODS Support Caliper Arms into position ready for adjustment and
tightening down.
Completed handover with NOV FSE on the drill floor. However, after communication
with the office, NOV FSE (Prabhakar) was to arrange transport to leave the vessel
today.
Meet with Rig management and planned for NOV FSE to take the crew change boat in
the afternoon. Onward arrangements NOV to assist with travel to Mumbai.
Discussed the handover and planning for me to go onto 06:00 to 18:00 shift.
Completed wire tie on the DS main bearings.
Completed the ODS main bearings bolts tightening and wire tie.
Due to boat schedule change NOV FSE not able to depart. Arrangements for the next
day – 04/07/2019.

contributing factor for the high bearing clearance reading.
Final checks on all the drive chains and link keepers and the drive chain housings
were clear of tools and rags.
Installed the back, drive chain covers – DS and ODS.
Installed the front, drive chain covers – DS and ODS. Slight adjustments still to be
made to the DS cover.
Completed the alignment of the ODS Caliper Support Arm and torqued down. Wire
tied the fasteners.
Cleaned off all the excess caliper cylinder adjusting grease, ready to adjust the
calipers.
Completed housekeeping.

Complete the covers.
Clean the discs and adjust the calipers. Fit the newly refurbished emergency calipers.
De‐isolate the DW and function.
Burnish the brakes and perform brake test.

Early morning in the Mechanic’s office meet with Chief mechanic and discuss the
SOW.
Arranged for the DW to be de‐isolated.
Functioned the DW to check for any issues. Found that the Positive Low Clutch yolk
bracket was touching the cooling water hoses. Removed the yolk and bracket, to skim
off some material.
prepared for the Burnishing of the Emergency Calipers.
Completed Burnishing the Emergency Calipers and did a Brake Test. Both calipers
broke at 1500amps. Removed the calipers to check on the condition of the linings.
Decided to change the linings for new. Replaced and completed a test without
burnishing, this broke at 1200amps.
Completed Brake test for the Service Calipers, both DS and ODS exceeded 2400amps
without rotation of the drum.
Completed housekeeping.

Proceeded to the Drill floor. Arrange for the transmission cover to be removed.
Completed 50% inspection of the transmission.
Continued to communicate with NOV India office and Houston engineering. Located
on PR Valve in Houston – relayed the information to the customer.
Completed housekeeping.

Complete the transmission inspection, box up the transmission.

Service Time.
Early morning in the Mechanic’s office meet with Chief mechanic and discuss the
SOW.
Proceeded to the drill floor and completed preparing to Burnish.
Completed burnishing the Emergency Calipers.
Completed Brake test on all calipers.
DS and ODS Service Calipers achieved 800amps/motor without the drumshaft
rotation.
DS and ODS Emergency Calipers achieved 500amps/motor before rotation of
the drumshaft.
Removed and checked the surfaces of the linings and Disc contact surfaces. Installed
again.
Loosened the DS Caliper Support Arm to move inboard as the pads indicated that the
disc is slightly inside the contact of the pad – leaving a ridge.
Communicated with NOV Engineering and Technical Support, feeding back results of
the Burnishing and Brake Tests.

Move both DS and ODS slightly inboard.
