Minerva presented about the altars created in Mexico for Día de los Muertos. The altars are made in homes and contain photos of deceased loved ones, as well as candles, cempasuchil flowers, fruit, bread, candies and sugar skulls. Each item has symbolic meaning - the candles light the path for visiting souls, the fruit and bread provide nourishment, and the flowers represent the holiday. The altars are left for three days to honor those who have died.

HELLO EVERYBODY. GOOD MORNING MY NAME IS MINERVA. MY PRESENTATION IS ABOUT THE ALTAR IN THE DAY OF THE DEAD IN MEXICO. THE DAY OF THE DEAD IS A CELEBRATION THAT USUALLY LAST THREE DAYS, FROM THE FIRST TO THIRD OF NOVEMBER. IN THIS CELEBRATION THE MEXICANS PUT A SHRINE OR ALTAR IN THEIR HOMES IN MEMORY OF THE DEAD, BECAUSE THEY VISIT THEM. ON IT THEY PUT PHOTOS, WATER, CANDLES, CEMPASUCHIL FLOWERS, FRUIT, FOOD, BREAD OF DEAD (PAN DE MUERTO*), MEXICANS CANDIES AND SKULL OF SUGAR. EVERYTHING HAS A PURPOSE, FOR EXAMPLE: WATER IS TO QUENCH THIRST OF THE VISITORS, CANDLES IS FOR LIGHT UP THE ROAD TO HOME OF EACH SOUL, MEXICAN CANDIES IS PUT FOR SOULS OF CHILDREN, THE FOOD QUENCHES HUNGER OF THE SOULS AND BREAD OF DEAD REPRESENTS THE BONES THAT WE ARE MADE OF. CEMPASUCHIL FLOWER REPRESENTS THIS CELEBRATION, IT’S VERY IMPORTANT. ALSO THERE ARE REPRESENTAIVE FRUIT FOR THIS CELEBRATION THAT IS MANDARIN AND JICAMA THOUGH THEY CAN TO PUT ALL TYPE OF FRUIT IN THE ALTAR. WHEN THOSE DAYS FINISH, THEY PICK THE ALTAR UP OR WHEN THE CANDLES ARE FINISHED. THAT´S ALL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION. HAVE A NICE DAY.
