Introduction
The Firmware Update is a tool that easily updates the embedded components on your
FTB-1.
Note: The Firmware Update tool replaces the old “Embedded Software Updater”.
Modified Components
Once installed, the embedded components listed below will be updated with the most
recent version available:
BIOS 1.15.0.0
EC 5.0.0.0
Before downloading the Firmware Update files, you may want to verify if your unit needs to
be updated. You can compare the version numbers appearing in the table above with those of
your unit (see Retrieving the Versions of the Embedded Components of Your Unit on page 2).
You only need to update your unit if its version numbers are earlier to the version numbers
presented in this document.
3. Write down the version numbers (BIOS and EC), and then close the window.
If you wish to retrieve the update file on a USB key, you will need:
a computer equipped with a USB port; Windows must be installed on the
computer
a USB memory key.

IMPORTANT
For a trouble-free installation, ensure that you connect your unit to
a power outlet and that your unit remains on during the process.
IMPORTANT
During the update process, the application may suggest that you
also install the latest System Upgrade on your unit. If this is the
case, you should perform the upgrade. Otherwise, some
applications or modules may no longer function properly.
Note: The acceptance of the license agreement is mandatory to be able to continue with the
installation.
Note: If your unit does not restart automatically, from the Windows taskbar, select Start >
Shutdown > Restart.
Your unit will be turned off automatically when the update is complete.
7e. Turn on your unit. You will notice that the Firmware Update tool has been
removed from your unit automatically.
7f. Ensure that the update has been successful by verifying the version numbers
(BIOS and EC). They should correspond to the version numbers listed in this
document. For more information, see Retrieving the Versions of the Embedded
Components of Your Unit on page 2.
8. If the components have not been updated correctly, repeat the procedure presented
above. If the problem persists, contact EXFO.
