Facing the Giants

There’s nothing more inspirational than hearing a story of a person surviving

against all odds, holding on to hope with all their might, and making it through the dire

straits of difficult situations. If you are on for some drama that would hit you right into

your core, inspire you and will leave you astounded then watch this film. The Facing the

Giants is a 2006 Christian drama film that is directed and starred by Alex Kendrick. This

second movie from Sherwood Pictures was a surprise theatrical hit, the best-selling

resource in Christian stores in 2007, and has been shown in thousands of churches

worldwide. The story is just so delicate and sturdy all at once, it’s like any other movie

where it endures the moments of heartache, yearned for the resolution of the characters

struggle and in a pop, there is a turning of events. That you realize the book is not what

you thought it was. The story transforms, instantly, and forever.

Alex Kendrick did a great job at portraying the character and at the same time

directs the film. Alex Kendrick as Grant Taylor, who is a football coach struggling to

keep the school’s football program alive, why? Well, problems just keep coming and

coming and it just keeps getting worst. The film will touch the watchers on a spiritual

level. As anyone can see with a quick glance at the overall ratings, this film seems to

really strike a chord in many watchers.

The movie starts with a high school football team that is losing very badly. For

Coach Taylor, everything in his life is going into disrepair. He and his wife Brooke
appear to be scarcely getting by, alongside the appliances and apparatuses are broken

or work irregularly; they have been striving for a long time to have a child, and as head

coach of a losing football group, the guardians and the community all in all are prepared

to abandon him. He creates a new coaching philosophy and decides to praise God, no

matter what the result. At the same time, he guides and urges each one of his players to

give the maximum effort, and motivates them to believe they can win under God's

guidance. And from that onwards, there have been significant changes on their

gameplays.

In reality, this film is an examination of faith in all its forms. Its fascinating to know

that facing challenges and gaining more faith in God is done wherein it is not that easy

especially when you are about to lose the important things we love. Like how Grant

Taylor does praying every time he experiences problems and not loses faith

doubtlessly. The most inspiring scene of the film is when Brock Kelley the most

influential member of the team makes his death crawl until he reaches the end zone.

Another scene is when David Childers is going to make a 41-yard kick although he is a

short range kicker Grant Taylor convince him to trust on his self and have faith in God.

In the end, he kicked the ball. The scenes are very inspiring. God never quit on us. He

gives us problems for us to learn. The movie is like the life of pi wherein it is ultimately

about faith and at the end about taking a leap of faith.

Throughout the film I thought it was a little bit boring, it started with a crowd,

unrecognized voices and also due to the fact that I am a bit ignorant when it comes to
football. Over the duration, the pacing starts to changes I get to understand it more

clearly. I happen to predict and feel that the movie is all about faith and courage. The

sounds are well established. The movie is a bit old class in a good way and what stands

out for me when I think of this film is that it is an inspiring film that could change your

perspective after watching it.

The cinematography is fine; the narrative control of the camera is great there is

no intricacy about that. The beginning of the movie, the scene of playing football, shows

shaky camera and dim light to express authenticity and point of view. There are also

scenes that rely on bright lighting and some smooth cuts from shot to shot. The mood

over the course of the film starts with disrepair, melancholia till it reaches the falling

action with a sudden twist of event. The angles are fine as well, it’s a far catch video,

where the camera is placed far for a whole body capture and also sometimes it is

zoomed in for emphasis.

Hearing the facing the Giants theme soundtrack, I can say that it perfectly suited

the sense of courageousness; the sounds reflect like this logic ‘once you fall, you stand

up’. Another soundtrack stained glass masquerade, the lyrics fits the theme of the film.

The film is amazing all in all. It’ll make you inspired and has some spiritual

connection with God. It shows connection and deeper understanding to the parts of the

story. This should be watched, it will give you the feeling of hope that the end would pull

through and make your suffering well worth it. The film brought back the metaphorical

and spiritual feel to a certain degree. I can compare this film with the bit out of the life of

Pi about how hold on to the faith that will get them success.
