4. You will agree that the purpose of developing a standard is served only when the
manufacturers/jeoxtcers in the relevant fields adopt and adhere to the standards in production
Processes. However. as Far as pesticides sector is concerned, out of 337 standards, only 73
standards have 1315 Product Certification licenses issued against them. It has serious implications

and crop yield.
5. There is a need, therefore, to take up measures so that industries implement the standards.
BIS on its partis taking up standard promotion activities, but these efforts will have greater impact
only if the Department of Agriculture of your State Government make efforts to promote the use
of standards by undertaking aggressive advocacy programmes with the manufacturing firms and
organizations, issuing advisories/directions to them and making the compliance with the important
standards mandatory
6. I would like to request you, therefore to take immediate proactive steps to ensure the
implementation of Indian Standards by the manufacturers/ producers of your State in the Pesticides
Sector. BIS will be happy to extend all necessary support to such efforts
With warm regards
Yours sincerely,
(P. K. Tiwari)
