Concept
Jargon is described as the use of common terms and phrases in a given circumstance, occupation, or trade. Those
specialized terms are used to convey accepted and understood hidden meanings in that area. It is just vocabulary
that is known by people within a certain community. Most English words are a common part of everyday speech,
understood by nearly anyone who speaks the language. Jargon, though, is like a kind of slang for members of a
specific group of people, often containing terms that are useless outside of a given context.

If you speak to other people informally in the same field of study, occupation or group, you can use jargon and still
be understood. If you're talking to someone outside of this group or writing work for a larger audience, however,
you should avoid using jargon. The point of writing and speaking is communication, and only a few people know
how to get your point across using words can get in the way. If you think first of all about your audience, you can
always choose the right words.

Jargon is vocabulary used exclusively by a particular group, such as the members of a profession or subculture.
Although jargon sometimes communicates new ideas, it also serves to separate people inside the group from people
outside of it. By its very definition, jargon is only understood by a select few and is therefore usually not the most
effective tool available to you for communicating your ideas. Medicine, law education, the military, the entertainment
world, and most academic disciplines have their own jargons. The jargons of bureaucracy and business, however, are
probably the most widespread and are thus the jargons many people know best and are most tempted to use.

THE COMMUNICATIVE STYLES ARE THE FOLLOWING:

FROZEN STYLE - It is the highest form of communicative style frequently used in respectful situations or formal
ceremonies such as theatre plays, weddings, funerals and more. This uses the intricate grammatical sentence form
and terminology that only specialists in this area are aware of. This is also known as Fixed Speech. This style is
usually encountered in national pledge, anthem, school creeds, marriage ceremonies, or speech for a state
ceremony.

Example of a Jargon: The school principal needs to interface with other departments.
Meaning: interact
Rephrase: The school principal needs to interact with other departments.

FORMAL STYLE - This style uses formal terms and phrases, and is used more in writing rather than speaking. This
also disallows the use of ellipsis, contractions, and modal adverbials which apply. This style is usually encountered in
meetings, speeches, school lessons, court, a corporate meeting, at a swearing in ceremony, in an interview or in a
classroom.

Example of a Jargon: What can we do to expedite the process?

Meaning: speed up or accelerate
Rephrase: What can we do to speed up the process?

CONSULATIVE STYLE - This is essentially unplanned speech because the speaker takes use of the listener's input
and feedback. The speaker will provide context information, while the audience is actively engaged again. This style is
usually encountered in regular conversation at schools, companies, group discussion, teacher-student, doctor-patient,
or expert-apprentice.

Example of a Jargon: If the market shifts, the next scenario is the poor quality of the products.
Meaning: events or sequence of events
Rephrase: If the market shifts, the sequence of the events is the poor quality of the products.

CASUAL STYLE - This is widely used by friends or even insiders who have to share information. In this form, both
speaker and listener have a free and simple involvement. This also known as Informal Style. This is usually
encountered in casual conversations with friends, family members, chats, phone calls and messages.

Example of a Jargon: “Hey, I’m already making money.”

Meaning: earning/ receiving salary/ having a job
Rephrase: “Hey, I already have a job.”

INTIMATE STYLE - The last form is used in interactions between two very similar men. It is defined by a word
economy, with a high probability of nonverbal communication. There is also a free and simple participation of both
speaker and audience like in Informal.

Example of a Jargon: “I let you do that because I didn’t want to steal your thunder.”
Meaning: steal the heroic moment/ spotlight
Rephrase: “I let you do that because I didn’t want to steal your spotlight.”
