In "Of the Coming of John chapter by W.E.

B Dubois is a story told by an African

American man called John. John was sent by his community to train as a teacher at Wells

institute to be a stepping stone to the black children in the community as he was expected to run

a school after his training. Later on, he opens a school that is unfortunately closed by the judge

only because it becomes successful, posing a threat to the white community who fear the

educated white populace. Later on, John sees his sister being sexually molested by John White;

he then gives him a blow to the head, leaving him dead. The judge then gets a mob who captures

and assassinates John. In my opinion, John's reaction towards the act done by John White was an

indication that he was fed up with how the whites oppressed his entire black community. His

past experiences are a subject on how John was able to see how the Southern black youths faced

life challenges due to racial discrimination and wanted a solution to it.

Ideally, John's act towards the molesting of her sister was justifiable. This is because

standing up in the gap to fight for what benefits you and what benefits both the family and the

community is justified. John's exposure and awareness of the racial oppression that African

American face forced him to act that way. His experience of first had racists commentary, and

the understanding that African American face could not allow him to watch a white molesting

her sister simply because she's an African American. His reaction towards the act done by John

White is a symbol to create awareness for the oppressed persons to stand and demand justice.
