Release Notes for Lab-Volt Digital Servo

Documentation
In order to properly setup the Digital Servo System, read carefully the document named Lab-Volt 8063
Digital Servo System - Getting Started.pdf located in the Documents folder.

General limitations
1. No closed-loop current control has been implemented in either LabVIEW™ based application or
MATLAB® based application. Therefore, high gains for PID controller will cause overcurrent
fault.
2. Response time of closed-loop control of speed or position is smaller (better) when using device
controlled application versus host controlled application. Device controlled means that the PID
controller algorithm is executed by the embedded microcontroller in the Servo Controller.
While Host controlled means PID control is computed by LabVIEW or MATLAB on a PC where
communication degrades control performance.

MATLAB® application known issues

1. Acceptable range for PID controller parameters Kp, Ti, TdE and TdPV are between 0 and 100.
Zero (0) must not be entered for Ti, TdE and TdPV. Interface don’t prevent entering of non-
numeric characters or a zero value.
2. Integral and derivative gain cannot be completely eliminated. Enter 100 for Ti, TdE or TdPV to
minimise integral and derivative effect.
3. Plot (Trend) may sometimes display all signal curves even if there are not selected in Signal Plot
Selection.
4. Function Generator must be powered off before exiting a GUI with the Exit button.
