SECTOR:
CONSTRUCTION
UNIT OF COMPETENCY:
You may have some or most of the knowledge and skills included in
this learner’s guide because you have:
If you feel that you have some skills, talk to your trainer about having
them formally recognized. If you have a qualification or certificate of
competence from previous trainings, show them to your trainer. If the skills
you acquired are still current and relevant to the unit of competency, they
may become part of the evidence you can present for RPL. If you are not
sure about the currency of your skills, discuss this with your trainer.
Talk to your trainer and agree on how you will both organize the
training of this unit. Read through the module carefully. It is divided into
sections which covers all the skills and knowledge you need to successfully
complete in this module.
Work through all the information and complete the activities in each
section. Do what is asked in the INSTRUCTIONAL SHEET (TASK SHEET,
OPERATION SHEET, and JOB SHEET) and complete the SELF-CHECK.
Suggested references are included to supplement the materials provided in
this module.
Your trainer will tell you about the important things you need to
consider when you are completing activities and it is important that you
listen and take notes.
Use the self-check questions at the end of each section to test your
own progress.
As you work through the activities, ask for written feedback on your
progress. Your trainer gives feedback/pre-assessment reports for this
reason. When you have successfully completed each element or learning
outcome, ask your trainer to mark on the reports that you are ready for
assessment.
When you have completed this module (several modules) and feel
confident that you have had sufficient practice, your trainer will arrange an
appointment to qualified trainer to assess/evaluate you. The result of your
assessment/evaluation will be recorded in your COMPETENCY
ACHIEVEMENT RECORD.

continuous object having no specific start or endpoint, as opposed to one
closed by PICKing points. A closed Pline reacts differently to the Spline
option and to some commands such as Fillet, Pline option.
18. Open

Revision # 00
Introduction to Template in AutoCAD
To overcome this task you can use templates in AutoCAD with all the
settings you want to have in a particular project. Once you set this drawing
template with all your custom settings you can save it and use any time for
your drawings. Templates are saved with DWT extension and after when you
save your work in a template file it gets saved in DWG extension.
Today we are going to discuss creating your own custom settings and save it
as the template file.
Step 1: The first step for creating a custom template is to open the AutoCAD
software and select the new drawing option as shown in the image below. It
is the same for all the different types of AutoCAD software like mechanical,
MEP, electrical, etc.
Step 5: While saving the template file select the ‘.dwt’ extension from
the drop-down menu. You can see many other extensions including ‘.dwg’ in
the drop-down list. As you know .dwt is the file extension for drawing
templates.
Step 7: When you click the save button a dialogue box will be opened.
This allows you to add a description for your template. In the template
option, the dialog box adds a brief description of the settings you added to
the template as given in the above image. This helps you to overview each
template in AutoCAD before a project.
Step 9: After opening your template you can draw whatever you want
in your template file. And after completing your work you can save it using
the .dwg extension. So it will be saved as an acad drawing file instead of a
template. As shown in the above image click saves as and in the dialog box
select the .dwg extension from the drop-down list and click save.

Learning Objectives:
After reading this Information Sheet, the trainee must be able to;
1. Set correct map units,
2. Change model file from meters to millimeters, and
3. Create a print file at a specified scale.
AutoCAD now knows that each unit in the map is 1 meter in the
model. However, printing in AutoCAD is based on ISO paper sizes using
millimeters so in order to print at a specific scale you need to convert the
model from meters to millimeters.
2. On the layout page, delete the existing Viewport to give you a blank
page. Do this by clicking once on the black box that highlights the
extents of the Viewport (it will change to blue to indicate that it is
selected), then press delete.
6. Select the Printer and Paper Size, and check that the 'Plot scale' units
are set to 1:1:
7. Select 'OK' and then 'Close' on the Page Setup Manager window if it is
still open.
8. Your sheet will now be set to whatever size you chose on the dialog
above.
9. Select the 'Layout' tab at the top of the command ribbon:
15. Click on the dropdown arrow to expand the list of scales and
select 'Custom...' from the list:
18. Once completed, click 'OK' to close the window, and again to
close the 'Edit Drawing Scales' window.
19. Select the Viewport again so that it is highlighted in blue.
20. The current drawing scale will be displayed in the scale
selection drop down:
21. Your new custom scale will be listed, select this and your
drawing will now fill the Viewport at the selected scale
22. You can now print your map at the specified scale.

Learning Objectives:
After reading this Information Sheet, the trainee must be able to;
1. Set up drawing backup files, and
2. Save a working drawing.
MOVEBAK Command
Tools pull-down menu
Autosave files are saved in a location that's also set in the Options dialog box.
To find this location, select the Files tab.
Expand the Automatic Save File Location entry by clicking the plus (+)
sign to the left. The Autosave folder location is listed here.
Take note of this folder location.
Look for the name of the file you want to save. You should see two versions of
this file:
One with a .bak extension (BAK file)
One with a .sv$ extension (AutoCAD Autosave Drawing file)
To be able to locate and open this folder, you'll likely need to turn on
your hidden files and folders. To be able to see the file extensions, you'll
need make sure file extensions are visible on your computer.
The .sv$ file of your drawing is the file that's created automatically by the
Autosave feature. Keep in mind that this file will be deleted automatically
whenever AutoCAD closes normally. So do not close CAD when opening a
backup file
Top open an Autosave file, locate the most recent .sv$ file with the same
name as your drawing.
Change this file's extension so it's a DWG file.
Step 3: Enable the manual backup feature, and restore manual backups
It's always a good idea to save your drawings. The Autosave feature is a
great safeguard, but you should definitely be in the habit of saving your
work regularly.
We recommend saving by pressing CTRL + S every 15 minutes or less.
