Sensor and Filter Cleaning Procedure

It is recommended that cameras be returned to Imperx, Inc. for any type of retrofit
and cleaning. Customer takes full responsibility for any damage occurring during the
procedure if they decide to do it themselves.

List of Required Material and Tools:

1. 200 proof ethyl alcohol.

2. Wipes – Opto-Wipes LCW-404 (source www.optoalignment.com)
3. Medical gloves (nitrile static-dissipative) such as Ansell 93-401/402 or
equivalent
4. Screwdriver - 1.5mm Hex
5. Screwdriver – Phillips
6. Wristband-grounding strap

Precautions:
1. Insure that the work area is clean and dust free (filtered clean hood is best).
2. Wear medical gloves (Ansell 93-401/402 or equivalent).
3. Circuit boards and CCD sensor are ESD sensitive and require proper
precautions to avoid damage. At minimum the workstation should have an
ESD-safe surface or mat (properly earth grounded) and operator must wear
wristband-grounding strap whenever subassemblies are handled.

Step 1: Disassemble Front Housing.

1. Remove screws. Use Screwdriver - 1.5mm Hex or Phillips depending on camera model.
2. Remove Front Housing

Step 2: Disassemble Camera Filter if it’s necessary. Not all cameras have filters.

1. Use screwdriver - 1.5mm Hex to remove hex screw for secure camera back focus.
2. Unscrew Camera Bezel (C, F, M42 or Canon).
3. Use Philips screwdriver to remove Filter plate.
4. Remove Filter gasket.
5. Carefully remove camera Filter and place it on to Opto-Wipes to prevent filter from
scratches.

Step 3: Prepare camera Sensor for cleaning.

1. Blow off the surface of the sensor with a compressed gas (dry nitrogen or air) source.
The source should not produce a net charge and may be ionized. Compressed gas
canisters should NOT be used. The fluid and coldness may affect the cover glass and
the gas may cause ESD events.

Step 4: Clean camera Sensor

Fold in four, one Opto-Wipes and drip some ethyl alcohol, wet the entire wipe. Clean only in
one direction. Every time use new wipe. Clean until all spots disappear.

Step 5: Clean camera Filter

Use a compressed gas source and blow filter in order to clean dust and contaminate particles on
top of cover sensor glass. Be sure filter surface is completely clean. Any particle left can cause
scratches during next step. Fold in four one Opto-Wipes and drip some Alcohol. Clean only in
one direction. Every time use new wipe. Clean until all spots disappear. Use Compressed Gas
for final touch.

Step 5: Re-assemble Camera Filter. (Not all cameras have filters.)

Before assembling mechanical parts, clean with optical wipes and alcohol. Use Compressed
Gas Source and blow part in order to clean dust and contaminate particles from camera parts.

Assemble camera with care in reverse order.

Step 6: Re-assemble Camera Front Housing.

Before assembling mechanical parts, clean them with optical wipes and alcohol. Use
Compressed Gas Source and blow parts in order to clean dust and contaminated particles from
them.

Assemble camera with care in reverse order.
