LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH IV

I. Learning Objectives

At the end of the period, the students shall have:

a. compared themselves in to a thing or an animal through the use signals in comparison as a


context clue.

b.identified signal used from the examples given;

c. constructed sentences using the following subordinating conjunctions given; and

d. arranged the words to form a sentence through the used of comparison as a context clue;

A. Preliminary Activity

B. Review

Last meeting, we discussed about explanation as a context clue. What is an explanation as a


context clue?
Answer: Explanation as a context clue-the unknown word is within the sentence

C. Motivation

Ask the student a question like this, If you are going to compare yourself to a thing or animal,
what it is and why?

Let the student share atleat 2 sentences.

For example: If I will going to compare my self to a thing or animal, I compare my self to a pillow
, and why? Because I am easily get pity to those people who have nothing to theirselves,my
heart is soft like a pillow.

D. Presentation

Our lesson for today is all about the comparison as a context clue and what are the words that
signals to determine the comparison in the sentence.

E. Discussion

Let us first define what is a comparison as a context clue?

Comparison as a context clue is a comparison between the unknown word and the other word
or concept within the sentence or paragraph.

What are the words that signals the comparison in the sentence?

Signal words are: so, as, like, just us, as well as if

What are the examples of comparison as a context clue?

1.Diane was lethargic and didn’t have the energy to get out of bed.

Since Diane didn’t have the energy to get out of bed, the comparison suggest that Diane is a
lethargic means laziness or lack of energy.

2. The greatest trip I ever took was my expedition to Africa.

So here, it says that the person had experince many trip, but he compare Africa was his
greatest trip among the place he been through.

3. Eating nutritious food is just as important as regular exercise.

In this sentence the comparison of eating nutrious food and regular exercise are the same, so
when you eat nutritious food it is just your doing the regular exercise.

4. I am determined to graduate with honor and my friend is just a resolute.

The word resolute here means marked by firm determination, so just like his/her friend he want
to graduate also with honor.
5. Sometimes he is perplexed by Sudoki puzzle, but others find them much easier to solve than
a crossword puzzle.

In this sentence the word perplexed means full of difficulty. Sudoki puzzle is difficlut game but
others find it much easier compare to a crossword puzzle.

F.Generalization:

Okay, what is comparison as a context clue? And what are those signal words that being used?

Give an example of a comparison as a context clue. And identify the signal word that is being
used.

G. Evaluation

Divide the students into 6 group.

Let the group arrange the words that was given to them and form it into a sentence and find
what signal word being used in the sentence.

Instruction: Arrange the each words to form a sentence and find the correct signal word that is
being used in the sentence. Place it on the manila paper and after show it to the class.
15munites to discuss and analyze.

H. Assignment

What color do you like and dislike and why? ¼ sheet of paper.
