The Gift of Giving

Introduction:

MUIS Singapore created The Gift of Giving and released on June 20, 2016, this touching
video is about transferring the gift of giving from grandfather to grandson. It all includes acts of
kindness, love, parenting and satisfaction. Muis aims to revive the noble act of eternal giving
through the creation of a new Wakaf called Wakaf Ilmu. Muis aims to combine the beneficial
income earned, contributions from expected donations and public funds for this Wakaf Ilmu to
establish its capital. The revenue created by the Wakaf's investment in capital-guaranteed
resources and probably assets in the future will help complement and maintain Muis' long-term
financial commitments on some of his main programs specifically for Singapore's Islamic
education.

A child follows in his grandfather's footsteps in the heart-warming video as he learns how
wonderful it feels to give. Looking at altruistic ideals of his grandfather teaches him how to treat
people with empathy. It is a beautiful example of how empathy and a spirit of generosity can be
transferred from one generation to the next. Not only is it good for us to support others and a
good thing to do, it also makes us healthier and happier too. Giving also links us with others,
creating stronger societies and building a better world for all. And that's not all about money-we
can offer our time, thoughts, and energy as well.

Summary:

Hakim is an elementary student and he's living with his uncle, Ato. His uncle likes to
help people and everyone is his friend. He always notices when someone needs help. Hakim
sometimes thinks his uncle does strange things but in a good way and it is to help other people.
He also guesses that his uncle wants others to smile. Ato says that “giving to others makes us a
better person.” In school, Hakim noticed one of his classmate’s textbook was ripped, his name is
Khairul, so he bought a new one and gave it to him. In his act, he finally understands why his
uncle does what he always does.

Everyone is able to accept acts of kindness. Yet people always take one of two extreme
positions when it comes to discussing why we do this. Some think kindness is something that we
do out of love and compassion absolutely selflessly, while others think it's just a tactic that we
use cunningly to become more famous and reap the benefits. Ato stated that, “giving to others
makes us a better person.” The understanding you support others is incredibly rewarding and in
turn will make you feel happy and fulfilled. Research has found a correlation between giving and
increased brain activity that senses satisfaction-showing that as the old adage goes, giving is
really much better than receiving. It is the joy and love we extend to others which bring real
happiness or relationship with god. When we offer, we reap the pleasure of seeing a brilliant
smile, laughter, tears of happiness and everlasting gratitude. We know that if people only offer a
little more of their time, talents, intelligence, wisdom, compassion, wealth, and love - the world
will be a more prosperous and better place.

Analysis:

The interpretation of events and the actors' motivations are easy to understand after
watching the film, since the actions are directed to the point. It also has a good script, because it
makes giving more relevant. Hakim's character growth is very significant, it means his uncle
Ato's good deeds are being paid off. As seen in the film, the director did a very good job of
implementing all the preparations to make the film and even though it's a short film, you'll get
the message from the film pointing out. The actors are realistic, and effectively portrayed their
character's role. Their acting is in line with the film's main premise. The music in the film doesn't
disturb as it isn't too loud and it's connected to the scene. The costumes used are relevant to the
film because the setting of the film is in school and neighbourhoods.

Conclusion:

Gifting is something that's not meant to be a hassle. It has got to come from the heart.
Having others feel special is more than ample justification for having you give more. It tells the
receiver you thought about them. To conclude, we should be working to help others and improve
ourselves. It is important to keep in mind that the more we work, the more we develop as
individuals. We should cleanse our hearts by giving others without expecting something in
return. We should do things devotionally since what goes around comes around.
