ALADDIN - A poor street urchin who fell in love with the Princess of Agrabah.
JASMINE - Princess of Agrabah who craves the freedom to make her own choices.
JAFAR - The Sultan’s villainous Grand Vizier.
GENIE - An all-powerful prisoner of the lamp.
SULTAN - A warmhearted ruler of Agrabah.
IAGO - Jafar’s lackey who is always over-eager to assist in evil plans.
RAZOUL - Head of the Guards.
GUARDS (2) - Work for Razoul.

Around 500 B.C to 323 B.C.

ACT 2
SCENE 1
(JASMINE is having breakfast. SULTAN and JAFAR storms in.)

SULTAN
Jasmine, Jafar told me you were almost kidnapped!

JASMINE
Aladdin didn’t kidnap me! I ran away—

SULTAN
Ran away?! I am disappointed in you, Jasmine.
(SULTAN leaves.)

JASMINE
(Gives JAFAR a side-eye.)
When I am Queen, I will get rid of you first!
(JASMINE storms out.)

(IAGO flies in.)

JAFAR
(Rolls his eyes.)
If only I’d gotten that lamp, I don’t have to deal with this anymore!

IAGO
At least you’re next in line for the throne.
GENIE
(Offstage)
Are you sure?

(Doors of the palace opens, revealing an entourage dressed in fancy clothes.)

(#1 – PRINCE ALI)

JAFAR
Who are you?!

GENIE
We are the Prince’s royal entourage!

JAFAR
What prince?!

(GENIE and the ENTOURAGE enter as JAFAR and IAGO take cover)

(Make way for Prince Ali)

(Say hey! It’s Prince Ali)

Hey! Clear the way in the old bazaar

Hey you! Let us through! It’s a bright new star!
Oh come! Be the first on your block to meet his eyes!

Make way! Here he comes!

Ring bells! Bang the drums!
You’re going to love this guy!

(SULTAN and JASMINE come out to see the commotion.)

Prince Ali! Fabulous he! Ali Ababwa

Genuflect, show some respect, down on one knee
Now, try your best to stay calm.
Brush up your Friday salaam
Then come and meet his spectacular coterie

Prince Ali! Mighty is he! Ali Ababwa

Strong as ten regular men! Definitely!
He faced the galloping hordes
A hundred bad guys with swords
Who sent those goons to their lords? Why, Prince Ali

Fellas he’s got

(He’s got seventy five golden camels)
Now the ladies, what he got?
(Purple peacocks, he’s got fifty three)
When it comes to exotic-type mammals
Everybody help me out!
(He's got a zoo, I'm telling you)
(It's a world-class menagerie)

Prince Ali! Handsome is he, Ali Ababwa

(There's no question this Ali's alluring)
(Never ordinary, never boring)
That physique!
(Everything about that man)
How can I speak, weak at my knees
(Just plain impresses)
You yummy boy!
So, get on out in that square
(He's a winner, he's a whiz, a wonder)
Adjust your veil and prepare
(He's about to pull my heart asunder)
To gawk and grovel and stare at Prince Ali, oops
(And I absolutely love the way he dresses!)
He’s got ninety five white Persian monkeys
He got the monkeys, a bunch of monkeys
And to view them he charges no fee
He’s so generous, so generous
He’s got ten thousand servants and flunkies
Proud to work for him
They bow to his whim, love serving him
They're just lousy with loyalty to Ali!

Prince Ali!
Amorous he! Ali Ababwa
Heard your princess was hot! Where is she?
And that, good people, is why he got all cute and dropped by
With sixty elephants, llamas galore
For real!?
With his bears and lions a brass band and more
What?
With his forty fakirs, his cooks, his bakers
His birds that warble on key
Make way for Prince Ali!

(ENTOURAGE exits.)

ALADDIN
Your Majesty, I’m Prince Ali of Ababwa.
(Bows.)
I’m here to seek the hand of your daughter.

SULTAN
I’m delighted to meet you.

(JASMINE enters unseen)

JAFAR
Prince Abooboo—

ALADDIN
Ababwa.

JAFAR
Whatever. You are definitely not her type.

ALADDIN
I’m rich and handsome. I can definitely change that.

JASMINE
(JASMINE storms in.)
How dare you?! All of you have no rights to dictate my future!

ALADDIN
I was just saying—

JASMINE
That I’d fall for you? Just because you’re rich and handsome? I’m the Princess of Agrabah! I
have both the looks and money. I can live fine, even without you.

ALADDIN
I didn’t—

JASMINE
Goodbye. I suggest you look for someone just as shallow as you are.
(JASMINE exits.)

ALADDIN
Wait, Princess!
SULTAN
Ignore her. You’ll stay the night.

(JAFAR, IAGO and SULTAN exit while ALADDIN is shown to his room.)

(In ALADDIN’s room, GENIE who heard the confrontation appears.)

ALADDIN
I completely blew it with the Princess! She’s going to figure out that I’m nobody.

GENIE
Al, just be yourself.

ALADDIN
That’s the last thing I want to be.
(ALADDIN puts his turban on and exits.)

GENIE
(Shouts.)
You’ll never know if you don’t try.

(GENIE exits.)

SCENE 2
(Jasmine’s balcony, at night.)

JASMINE
Ugh! I will not be auctioned off to some self-centred show-off!

ALADDIN
(Enters JASMINE’s room.)
I hope you’re not talking about me.
JASMINE
What are you doing here?!

ALADDIN
Well—

JASMINE
Save your breath. I’m not interested.

ALADDIN
Please, I’ve offended you. I humbly beg for your forgiveness.

(ALADDIN removes his turban and bows. JASMINE sees something familiar.)

JASMINE
Wait. Have we met before?

ALADDIN
(Quickly puts on his turban.)
That’s impossible!

JASMINE
No, you’re the guy that I met in the marketplace.

ALADDIN
Did I mention you look beautiful tonight?

JASMINE
And rich too. Any prince’s dream wife.

ALADDIN
Right. A prince like me.
JASMINE
(Disgusted.)
Unbelievable. You’re just like the rest!

ALADDIN
No. You’re not just some prize to be won. I’ll go.
(ALADDIN leaps over the balcony.)

JASMINE
Wait! No! I—

(ALADDIN rises up over the balcony railing.)

ALADDIN
Yes?

JASMINE
How—

ALADDIN
(Floats up.)
Magic carpet! Care for a ride?
(Reaches out to JASMINE)

(#2 – A WHOLE NEW WORLD)

(ALADDIN helps JASMINE onto the magic carpet which flies into the night sky.)

JASMINE
Thank you for the ride. It was magnificent.

ALADDIN
You know, this is the best night of my entire life.

JASMINE
Even better than the night we planned to run away together?

ALADDIN
That was great too! Wait— I didn’t fool you for a second, did I?
JASMINE
Did you think that I’d go on a magic carpet ride with a complete stranger?

ALADDIN
(Smiling)
So, will I see you again?

JASMINE
As soon as I speak to my father.

ALADDIN
What?

JASMINE
Well, I have to tell him that I have found “The One”, don’t I?

(JASMINE runs offstage. ALADDIN is stunned.)

SCENE 3
(Palace, morning.)

(SULTAN and JASMINE enter.)

SULTAN
I can’t express how happy I am, Jasmine.

JASMINE
I know it seems so sudden, but it’s as if I’ve known him my whole life.

(ALADDIN enters.)

SULTAN
Here comes our future Sultan!
ALADDIN
Sultan? Me?

SULTAN
Of course! You’re just what the kingdom needs.
(SULTAN exits.)

ALADDIN
(Talking to himself.)
Me?

JASMINE
Bye Ali! There’s a wedding to prepare.
(JASMINE exits.)

(GENIE enters with lamp.)

ALADDIN
Genie, there you are. Everything is a mess! Jasmine wants to marry Ali and make him Sultan. I
can’t use my last wish on you, Genie. I might need it someday.

(JAFAR and IAGO enter unseen and eavesdrop.)

GENIE
(Deeply hurt.)
Okay…I understand.
(GENIE disappears into the lamp, which sits on the ground.)

ALADDIN
Wait! I’m just under a lot of pressure and— You know what? Stay in there! See if I care!

(ALADDIN exits. JAFAR and IAGO confer.)

JAFAR
He’s the Diamond in the Rough!

IAGO
And there’s the lamp!
(IAGO retrieves the lamp and gives it to JAFAR.)

IAGO
Looks like Prince Abooboo made a boo-boo.

JAFAR
(Laughs wickedly.)
At last! My time has finally come!
(Rubs the lamp, GENIE appears.)

GENIE
(Wrapped in a towel, screams and covers himself.)
What, Al?! I was in the middle of something!
(Realizes.)
Wait, who are you?

JAFAR
I am your new master. Now, grant my wish! Make Sultan, Princess and “Prince Ali” my
prisoners!

GENIE
Yes, master.

(SULTAN, JASMINE and ALADDIN suddenly appear in chains.)

SULTAN
Jafar, what is this? Release us this instant!

JAFAR
No can do, “Your Majesty”.
(JAFAR shows off the lamp.)

IAGO
Finders keepers!

(ALADDIN gasps.)

(#3 - PRICE ALI - REPRISE)

JAFAR
Now, sit back and enjoy the show!

Prince Ali, yes it is he

But not as you know him
Read my lips
And come to grips with reality
Yes, meet a blast from your past
Whose lies were too good to last
Say hello to your precious Prince Ali

(IAGO removes ALADDIN’s turban. SULTAN gasps. ALADDIN bows his head in shame.)

So Ali turns out to be merely Aladdin

Just a con, need I go on?
Take it from me
His personality flaws
Give me adequate cause
To send him packing on a one-way trip
So his prospects take a terminal dip

His assets frozen

The venue chosen
Is the ends of the earth
Whoopee
So long
Ex Prince Ali

SULTAN
Enough! I’m Sultan—

JAFAR
Not so fast. Genie, I wish to be Sultan of Agrabah!

(GENIE points at JAFAR.)

JAFAR
(Cackles.)
Game over. Agrabah is now mine! Without the genie, you’re nothing, “Prince Ali”!

ALADDIN
You’re right. I am just a guy who rubbed a lamp. But, so are you!

JAFAR
Am I not Sultan?

ALADDIN
Maybe you are. Anyhow, the genie has more power than you’ll ever have.

JAFAR
(Snickers.)
Do you think I’m naïve? I know how the lamp works. Did you think I’d wish to be an all-powerful
genie? Well, you’re wrong! Genie, for my third and final wish, I want to be the most powerful
human ever! Even more powerful than you!

(ALADDIN, JASMINE and SULTAN gasp in disbelief.)

(GENIE points at JAFAR.)

JAFAR
Finally, all the power belongs to me! Razoul, carry out the former Sultan’s death sentence
immediately!

(RAZOUL drags SULTAN who was in shock.)

JASMINE
Jafar, you can’t do this!

JAFAR
I can. And it’s Sultan Jafar. Guards, bring these two pesky teenagers to prison.

(GUARDS drag ALADDIN and JASMINE to prison.)

IAGO
Prison! To prison they go!

JAFAR
Now we can live happily ever after with Agrabah in our hands.

(IAGO cackles. GENIE bows his head in disappointment.)
