2179CM Fiber Optical Closure
1． Product description
2179-CM fiber optic distribution closure is specifically designed by 3M for optimal ease-of-use, fast and
cost-effective FTTH deployment. 2179-CM comes with multiple branch/drop ports supporting various types of
branch/drop cables for efficient and weatherproof on-demand home connect installation.

4． Cable Preparation
4.1 Insert two sealing rings onto
cable. Select sealing rings with
opening closest to cable outer
diameter.
5． Main Cable Installation
Bolt
Clamp
5.1 To install the L-bracket, loosen
bolt and thread the strength
member through hole on bolt
body.
Tighten bolt and clamp
appropriately.
5.4 Ensure that the sealing rings
are aligned to the markings from
step 5.2, wrap the cable entry
sealing around the cable.
Note: If cable with outer diameter
of <9mm, additional tape
needs to be added to
increase the build up
thickness.

4.2 Remove cable jacket and clean
cable as per company practice.
The recommended strip length
is 1.5m.
5.2 Affix the L-bracket onto slot on
cable entry port of base cover.
Align sealing rings as shown
above and mark position rings on
cable.
5.5 Flip open circular part of the
gasket and place the cable into
the gasket opening.
Align and insert the L-bracket
and sealing rings into their
respective slots on the base
cover.
Reposition the circular part of the
gasket to wrap around the cable
build up.

4.3 Remove central strength
member, retain approximately
4cm of strength member for
strain relief.
5.3 Install the sealing gasket onto base
cover.
Ensure that the entry port circular
gasket can be flipped open easily.
5.6 For empty or unused cable
entry ports, build up the port
plug with half circular loop of
cable entry sealing tape. Cut
access tape with a pair of
scissors at 45°angle.
Place port plug into empty port.

6． Distribution or Drop Cable Installation

Cut here for Ø9-11mm cables

Cut here for Ø5-8mm cables

6.1 Cut the distribution port gland with a pair of scissors.
Note: Always use all distribution ports at the bottom side of the base cover first.

6.2 Apply grease evenly to the
surface of the cable jacket and
inner wall of the distribution port
gland.
6.3 Loosen screws of cable Note: For Ø5-8mm cables,
retention kit. install 5-8mm relief adaptor

6.4 Insert distribution or drop cable
through distribution port gland
and cable retention clamp.

7． Fiber Management
6.5 Tighten screws on cable
retention clamp and strength
member clamp respectively.
6.6 For additional distribution or drop
cable installations, affix the strain
relief modules as shown above.
Fix the modules with screws
provided.

8． Closure Opening and Closing

8.1 Ensure gasket is aligned to
slot before re-placing top

8.2 Secure closure halves by latching
the two center latches first.
Note: Care must be taken when
securing the latch. Ensure
hand is not in latch-on slot to
avoid being clipped.
8.3 Latch on remainder four corner
latches.

8.4 Complete sealing process by securing the last latch on the cable entry side of the closure with the help of a flathead
screw driver or other suitable tool.
9． Closure Re-entry

9.1 Place a flathead screwdriver into
the slot on the latch on cable
entry side of the closure.

9.2 Insert the flathead screwdriver 9.3 Proceed to access the closure
