the ‘20/’21 Rotary Year~~

Newsletter note – It pays to tune in
early to the Moraga Rotary Zoom
call. This week Cliff Dochterman
fielded questions from members
about Paul Harris, the founder of
Rotary. We heard that Paul could
be a difficult child. We verbally
toured Paul’s house and we found
his grave. Next week get onboard
the Zoom train early and see what
interesting topics are discussed.
~~HAPPY BUCKS~~
• Angelo Costanza because
he purchased a necklace over
the internet from the speaker
at our November 3rd meeting
– Mary Gadeken. These are
Polio Plus necklaces made
from pebbles gathered from
each country where Rotary
has clubs. You will recall Mary
sells the necklaces for $50
 each and all money collected
goes to Rotary Polio Plus.
Angelo is a pleased customer.

Moraga School District, at our “A Nite
at the Races 2020”
• Debbie Roessler celebrated
a recent trip to the Blackhawk
Museum where she is a
docent. Debbie raved over a
new exhibit on the bottom
floor of the museum building.
The topic is wild animals and
Debbie says it is just as good
as something at Disneyland.
At the door is an animatronic
bison which charges visitors
on a timer. Very effective.
Reservations are required and
the museum is open for
limited size groups from 12 to
5pm.
• Alka Mulakaluri had $5
Happy Bucks to celebrate a
successful car trip to Seattle
and her daughter receiving a
grade of 97% on an important
exam.
• Mike McCluer gave a
Fabulous $20 Happy Bucks to
celebrate the very recent
announcement that there is a
vaccine for Covid-19 close to
approval which is 90%+
effective. It is a joint venture
between a German company
and Pfizer and they expect to
have 15 million doses
available by the end of next
month and a billion doses
next year.
• John Erickson gave $5 HB’s
because he had an enjoyable
time working in the back yard.
• Gary Irwin celebrated the
dedication today of half a
bridge between Moraga and
Canyon with $5 Happy Bucks.
President Brian South asked
Roger Gregory to tell how he
celebrated his birthday and 46th
anniversary. Roger who was last
month’s Fine Free Hat winner said
he and Jan went to Rick & Ann’s in
Berkeley for brunch.
Alka Mulakaluri had a birthday
and said they went to BJ’s for lunch
– one of the family favorites – They
love the cookie with lots of ice
cream.
Lad Lynch had a birthday
yesterday. His family came in for a
joyful celebration with pizza and
cupcakes.
~~ANNOUNCEMENTS~~
President Brian reported that we
have 261 meals purchased for our
Ribs for Rotary event 11/12. The
work crew will be Debbie
Roessler, President Brian, John
& Mary Sue Erickson, Rich
Render and Ron Mucovich. This
should be a sufficient workforce for
the event but if other club members
want to show up – that would be
grand too.
There was a meeting of the Nite at
the Races committee after this
meeting today.
Debbie Roessler and hubby Lou
donated a vehicle through Cars
Second Chance with Dave Kemnitz
and the Concord Clayton Sunrise
Rotary Club. The car sold for
$6,000 so our club will receive half
of that amount. That is a nice
addition to our treasury – Thank
you Debbie and Lou!
a 1978 orange Datsun. It is a very popular car. 50
people wanted it. The young man who bought it got
it for his dad who is undergoing chemo and used to
have an orange Datsun just like it.
We had a brand new Mystery Box,
donated by Debbie Roessler. The
very general first clue was, “The
item is worth $25 and it is a
pleasing accessory.” Each guess
costs the guesser $1:
• Rich Render guessed a
necklace. (wrong)
• Cliff Dochterman guessed a
scarf. (wrong)
• Debbie Koo said, “A
bracelet.” (wrong)
• Cliff Dochterman said, “It’s
Lou!” (very wrong)
• Evie said, “Something
edible?” (wrong)
• Lad Lynch guessed a
Christmas tee shirt? (wrong)
There were no more guesses so
next week we try again with a new
clue…
 ~~PROGRAM~~
The speaker today was Ana Moon,
a board member of Moraga
Education Foundation (“MEF”),
to which Moraga Rotary, many
Rotarians, and most of the Moraga
citizenry donate each year.
~~ENCORE~~
The randomizer selected John
Erickson for the Encore, and as
usual he guessed the Ace of
Hearts again, which won him $50
again. Next week the pot goes
back to $10.
