1. SCOPE

NIOEC Specifications cover the general requirements for detailed engineering

procurements, testing inspection & construction of refinery/oil plant, distribution depots,
pump stations and pipe lines.

This Specification defines the minimum requirements for producing, placing and curing
satisfactory concrete during high temperature weather.

2. REFERENCES

Throughout this Specification the following dated and undated standards/codes are
referred to these referenced documents shall, to the extent specified here form a part of
this Specification.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any
supplements and amendments) applies. For dated references, the edition cited applies.
The applicability of changes in dated references that occur after the cited date, shall
mutually be agreed upon by NIOEC and Vender / Contractor

NIOEC-SP ( NIOEC-SPECIFICATIONS )

NIOEC-SP-00-10 "NIOEC Specification for Units"

NIOEC-SP-10-01 "NIOEC Specification for Concrete"

3. UNITS

International system of unites (SI) shall be used in accordance with NIOEC-SP-00-10,

unless otherwise specified.

4. GENERAL

- Herewith the " Recommended Practice for Hot Weather Concrete " by American
Concrete Institute ( ACI.305-72 ) is declared to be a part of this specification. The
following requirement and precautionary measures have been extracted from the
above standard and NIOEC-SP-10-01.

- Thorough preparation for protection against hot weather damage , the concrete
shall be made well in advance of anticipated hot weather.

5. TEMPERATURE OF CONCRETE AS PLACED

- The maximum temperature of concrete at time of placement shall be 32°C.

However, difficulty may be encountered with concrete at temperatures
approaching 32°C and every effort should be made to maintain it at a lower
temperature.

3
JULY, 2005 NIOEC-SP-10-02 ( 0 )

- One or more of the ingredients may have to cooled to keep the temperature of the
concrete from being excessive at time of placement.

- Cement content, because of heat of hydration, should be maintained at the

minimum permitted by the work.

- Forms and reinforcing steel may have to be protected from direct rays of the sun
and cooled by sprinkling.

- Delivery and placement shall be well scheduled to avoid excessive mixing or

delays contributing to stiffening. Concrete placement may have to be restricted to
the evening or night when temperatures are lower and evaporation is less.

- Retempering concrete by addition of water shall be restricted to the limits set in

the concrete specifications.

- Mixers and conveyances may have to be protected from direct sun-Light.

Reflective paint may have to be used on equipment.

- Concrete in place shall be protected and cured so as to minimize drying and

absorption of heat.

- Suitable water-reducing retarders may be used to control excess water demand.

Request by the Contractor for approval of such retarders shall be submitted to
the owner in writing.

6. INSPECTION

The Employer reserves the right of inspection the work by his representative during
all phases of concrete work.
