CSIR-CMERI develops World’s Largest Solar Tree
The CSIR's Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) has claimed
to have developed the world's largest 'solar tree' which is installed at its residential
complex in Durgapur in West Bengal and created a model which can be customized
for use in agricultural activities. “The installed capacity of the Solar Tree is above
11.5 kWp. It has the annual capacity to generate 12,000-14,000 units of Clean and
Green Power”.
GoI bans printing of calendars, diaries and festival greeting cards
The Government of India banned printing materials such as diaries, calendars and
festival greeting cards. The order was passed by the Ministry of Finance. The ministry
has asked the government organs to adopt digital means to publish such materials.
Delhi tops deaths due to road accidents in 2019: National Crime Records Bureau
Data
Delhi recorded the highest number of deaths due to dangerous driving and overall
road accidents in 2019 among all cities, the data shared by National Crime Records
Bureau showed.
According to the data, a total of 1,400 persons died in road accidents.

Ladakh, Lakshadweep join 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme; 26 states, UTs
now linked
Ladakh and Lakshadweep have joined the Centre's ration card portability scheme
'One Nation-One Ration Card', taking the total number of states and Union
territories linked with the scheme to 26.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA)
will be able to avail their entitled foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop (FPS), also called
ration shops, in the country using the same ration card. Remaining states are targeted
to be integrated in the scheme by March 2021.
Cabinet approves Bill to include Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi as official languages in J&K
The Union Cabinet on 2nd September approved a bill under which Kashmiri, Dogri
and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages
in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Announcing the decision at a news
briefing, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the Jammu and Kashmir Official
Languages Bill, 2020.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu released the “State of Young Child in India” report.
The report was prepared by the Mobile Creches, a policy advocacy organization. The

the residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
PM Modi addresses the ‘Grih Pravesham’ event in MP
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has addressed the ‘Grih Pravesham’ event in
Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing. Under this, 1.75 Lakh Families in

Centre approves setting up AIIMS in Bihar’s Darbhanga at cost of Rs 1,264 crore
The Union Cabinet has approved establishment of a new All India Institute of
Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bihar’s Darbhanga. The institute will come up under the
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at a total cost of Rs 1,264
crore. The new AIIMS is likely to be completed within a period of 48 months from the
date of the approval by the Centre.

India aims to achieve 100 MT coal gasification target by 2030: Union Minister

India aims for 100 million tonnes (MT) coal gasification by 2030 with investments
worth over Rs. 4 lakh crores, said Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Coal and Mines.
It will boost production of energy fuel, urea for fertilisers and production of other
chemicals; transporting gas is cheaper than transporting coal, reducing energy imports
etc.

Corporation of India (SCI) will connect Tuticorin and Cochin ports in India with
Kulhudhuhfushi and Male ports in the Maldives.
Singapore becomes first to use facial verification in national ID
Singapore is set to become the first in the world to use facial verification for
national identity cards, which will allow citizens to access private and government
services.
The service was earlier tested in a bank, and after its successful trial, it is now being
rolled out all over the country.

solar power plants for solarisation of grid-connected agriculture pumps and loans
for setting up Compressed BioGas plants have been included as fresh categories

Bank of India, on the occasion of its 115th Foundation Day on September 7, 2020
decided launched “Signature Visa Debit Card” for the affluent/high net worth
individuals maintaining an average quarterly balance of ₹10 lakhs and above.
This card will have a spending limit of up to Rs. 5 lakhs on POS & E-commerce and
Rs.1 lakh on ATM.
Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank ceased to be banking company: RBI
Reserve Bank of India has ceased the Banking operations by the Aditya Birla Idea
Payments (ABIP) Bank under Banking Regulations Act 1949 with effect from July 28,
2020.
The decision to shut operations by the Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank was taken due
to unanticipated developments in the business landscape which have made the
economic model unviable, a regulatory filing by the Vodafone Idea Limited had said in
July last year. Now the bank company could not able to work successfully and applied
for voluntary winding up by the Vodafone Idea Limited which holds 51% in ABIP
bank and the remaining 49% by Grasim Industries Limited.
Reliance Industries becomes first Indian firm to top $200 bn market cap
Reliance Industries (RIL) on 10th September became the first Indian company to
surpass $200 billion in market capitalisation (m-cap). On 10th September closing price,
RIL had an m-cap of Rs 15.3 trillion ($208 billion). Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is
a distant second, with an m-cap of Rs 8.75 trillion, ($119 billion).
FDI inflow from China declines to USD 163.77 million in FY20
There has been decline in foreign direct inflow from China in the last three years
with FDI coming down to USD 163.77 million in 2019-20, Minister of State for
Finance Anurag Singh Thakur informed Lok Sabha on 14th September.
Giving details of the total foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow from Chinese companies
in India, he said, it was USD 350.22 million in 2017-18, while it declined to USD 229
million in the following year. During 2019-20, FDI further came down to USD
163.77 million, he said in a written reply on the first day of the monsoon session.
SBI and Titan launch India’s first contactless payment watch
The State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector lender, and Titan
Company have partnered to launch contactless payment services through watches,
called “Titan Pay”.
India extends $250 million support to Maldives to overcome economic impact of

Covid-19
India has provided financial assistance of USD 250 million to the Maldives to help
it mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian embassy
here said on 20 September.
The grant, provided under the most favourable terms possible, India has provided a
sovereign guarantee to SBI for this financial assistance. The soft loan of $ 250 million
has a comfortable tenor of 10 years and a very low interest rate.
RBI publishes “’Technology Vision for Cyber Security’ for UCBs
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will implement the “Technology Vision for Cyber
Security’ for Urban Co-operative Banks (2020-2023) to enhance the IT security
system of Urban Co-operative banking to prevent, detect, respond to and recover from
cyber-attacks.
The Technology Vision Document aims at enhancing the cybersecurity posture of

the Urban Co-operative banking sector against evolving IT and cyber threat
environment. RBI will achieve this objective using its five-pillared strategic approach
‘GUARD’.
RBI to Implement Positive Pay System from January 1, 2021
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come up with positive pay system for cheque
payments to prevent cases of banking fraud. It will be implemented from January 1,
2021.
Customers will now have to furnish details of cheques like name of the beneficiary,
payee, amount to the drawee bank and date through available means, SMS, internet
banking or ATM and mobile app. This will be applicable if the amount mentioned on
the cheque is above Rs 50,000.

Defence Ministry signs Rs 2,580 Cr deal to procure Pinaka rocket launchers
In a big boost to the 'Make in India' initiative, the Defence Ministry has signed
contracts worth Rs 2580 crores with Indian companies to supply six Army
regiments with Pinaka missiles. The Acquisition Wing, Ministry of Defence signed
contracts with Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), Tata Power Company Ltd (TPCL), and
Larsen & Toubro (L & T) on August 31.
These will be operationalised along the northern and eastern borders, and their
induction is planned to be completed by 2024.
India-Russia sign agreement on manufacturing AK-203 rifles
The Defence Minister is at Russia’s capital Moscow attending SCO meet. He arrived
on September 2, 2020 and is on a three-day visit. The Defence Minister on the side
lines of the SCO meet held talks with his Russian counterpart Shoigu. During the meet,
the leaders signed the AK-203 rifles deal. According to the deal, the rifles are to be
produced in India under the Make in India initiative with Russia support.
India successfully test scramjet technology for hypersonic missiles
India joined the elite group Russia, China, US, after successfully conducting first
test flight of the indigenously developed HSTDV (Hypersonic Technology
Demonstrator Vehicle) from Odisha coast. This giant leap will lead to the
development of hypersonic cruise missiles in future. HSTDV abbreviated form of
Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle is an unmanned scramjet demonstration
aircraft.
Centre increases FDI limit in defence from 49% to 74% under automatic route
The Central government has increased the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in
the defence sector from 49 to 74 per cent under automatic route and beyond 74 per
cent through the government route.
India conducts successful flight test of ABHYAS from Odisha test range
India on 22nd September successfully conducted the flight test of ABHYAS - High-
speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) - from a test range in Odisha. ABHYAS has
been designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment
(ADE) of the DRDO. The vehicle has been programmed for fully autonomous flight.
India successfully Fire tested Prithvi II Missile
India successfully test fired the Prithvi II missile which was developed indigenously.
The test was conducted at the Chandipur Integrated Test Range, Odisha. The missile
attained the range of 350 km. The test fire was a routine exercises. Electro optical
tracking systems, radars and telemetry stations of Defense Research and development
Organizations (DRDO) traced the trajectory of the missile.
INDRA 2020: Indian Navy to hold mega exercise with Russia
India and Russia are to hold bilateral naval exercise INDRA 2020 in Andaman Sea,
close to strategic Strait of Malacca. The exercise is being conducted while the Indian
Navy is on high operational alert due to the standoff with China in Ladakh.
Three Russian Naval ships are to take part in the exercise on September 4 and 5.
Navy conducts Passage Exercise with Royal Australian Navy
The Indian Navy (IN) has commenced a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Royal
Australian Navy (RAN) in the East Indian Ocean Region.
The exercise would involve participation of HMAS Hobart from the Australian side
and Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri and Karmuk. PASSEXs are regularly conducted by IN
with units of friendly foreign navies, whilst visiting each other’s ports or during a
rendezvous at sea.
