Rules and regulations:

Format:

The event is a fresher’s exclusive activity which shall be conducted in a bilingual format i.e.
Hindi and English. The competition comprises of three stages where selected participants will
advance based on individual speaker scores. Every round shall consist of a motion with two
sides: the proposition and the opposition. The rules are subject to change at the discretion of the
organizing committee

 The first stage will be based on traditional 1v 1 debating where both the sides will have
one speaker each.
 The second round will be based on 2v 2 debating with two speakers on each side.
 The last and final stage will be an Asian Parliamentary Debate with three speakers on
each side: the team comprising of two first years assisted by a senior debater.

Scoring:

Every round will be adjudged by a panel of senior debaters of the college. The participants shall
be judged on primarily, the content of their speech, their method of argumentation and manner of
presentation.

 The first stage shall be open to all the participants, both Hindi and English speaker scores
and based on their performance, the best 16 speakers shall advance to the quarter finals.
 The second stage requires a team of two participants on each side which will be done by
a random draw of lots. The team will be supposed to argue in favour or against a motion
together, however, 8 best speakers according to their individual speaker scores shall
advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will again be based on two member teams on
each side , allotted through a random draw of lots and a process similar to that of the
quarter finalists.
 The best 4 speakers shall advance to the finals, based on individual performance in the
semi-finals. They shall compete in a team of three members each, the third member being
a senior debater on both the sides. The teams shall be judged on collective team scores.

Speaker Roles:

 In 1v1 debating, each participant shall be accorded with 5 minutes to present their speech
consisting of their constructives and rebuttals. The order shall be Proposition (4 min)
followed by Opposition (5 min) and concluded by Proposition (1 min).
 In 2v2 debating, each participant shall be accorded with 5 minutes to present their issues.
The order shall be Proposition ( Speaker 1), Opposition (Speaker 1), Proposition (Speaker
2) and Opposition (Speaker2).
 The 3v3 Asian Parliamentary Debate shall accord 5 minutes to each participant in the
order Proposition( Speaker 1), Opposition (Speaker 1), Proposition (Speaker 2),
Opposition (Speaker2), Proposition (Speaker 3) and Opposition (Speaker 3).

Awards:

 The Best English and Hindi Speaker shall be chosen from the first stage itself.
 The final round shall witness the best fresher team on the basis of the above mentioned
criteria.
 The top individual speaker rank holders as well as team rank holders will be allotted a
fresher’s specific debate in any part of the country based on their claims and Litigium
ranking. Besides, the finalists shall also be given prizes and a certificate of appreciation.
