Grade 11-STEM-1 SIP Journey

“The Effectiveness Of Science Investigatory Projects (Sip) In My Life As A

Student Of Mataas Na Paaralang Neptali A. Gonzales”

If I am asked what would be the last research I will make, it would be the title
mentioned above. For five consecutive years, the moment I started my studies at MPNAG as a
STE student, it was reiterated to us that the heart of STE or STEM students is “RESEARCH”.
Starting from our grade seven year we are taught how to make a research paper and believe me it
would look easy at first but then as you go deeper on the chapters everything goes upside down.
There are terms used that I haven’t encountered before. However, since I have knowledge in
writing and composing sentences, I was assigned to be the encoder of our research and that is
when I started enjoying it a little. From having a research title of: The feasibility study of lemon
peel and citrus extract as alternative air freshener; it was turned to: Utilization Of Discarded
Materials from Electronic Devices as a Battery Charger with SOS (Sandata On Sakuna)
and lastly our grade 10 research: Underground Model of Magnetic Levitating (MagLev)
Train. It was a roller coaster ride for me throughout my SIP journey, there are so many ups and
downs which made me dizzy and experience sleepless nights just to be able to make an almost
perfect research. Suddenly stressful moments filled up those times while we make our research,
why? Some students in our batch don’t really have the forte to make a research so it became
really stressful for use even though we are being prepared since our first year. This year, I was
confident to do our research with my friend and classmate, Vhernadette Valbuena. However a
very tragic and sad decision was made by our research adviser. We have to work as individual in
physical science category. I am not actually knowledgeable about handling wires, capacitor,
rectifiers and stuff like that. I dreamed of holding a scalpel one day but at that moment I was
holding a soldering iron to make my product. I experienced a lot of breakdowns where I would
cry out my stressful days and I would panic if my adviser would ask about my research. It all
became a heavy baggage for me because I am not use to being alone and doing these kinds of
things. A thought came in my mind that I should just give up my project but there are people
cheering me up that I can do it. Since I am the kind of person to finish what I started, I mustered
up all my strength to finish my research. With the title of: Harvesting Energy Through
Scrolling And Tapping On Laptop Keyboard And Trackpad, it is my latest research where in
I won 2nd place. Therefore, I conclude that the effect of the Science Investigatory Project in my
life is to NEVER GIVE UP. There would be times that I would encounter hardships and
difficulties so if I give up on a simple problem what more if I face the real world with bigger
problems. It also helped me to realize that after all the hard work is a reward that will lift up all
the stress I have felt. Lastly, I recommend others to try and make a SIP; it won’t just enhance
your skills but contribute to the betterment of our country.
