INTRODUCTION
Accurate determination of the density or specific gravity of
petroleum and its products for the conversion of measure volumes
at the standard temperature of 15°C, 20°C or 60°C and also
volume to mass and vice versa. The hydrometer method is most
suitable method for determining the density or relative density
(specific gravity) of mobile transparent liquids. It can also be used
for viscous oils by allowing sufficient time for the hydrometer to
reach equilibrium or for opaque oils by employing a suitable
meniscus correction. Hydrometer readings are obtained at
convenient temperatures, reading of density being reduced to 15°C
or 20°C.

Answers of Discussion section I.:
1.our main purpose is to determine the API of the crude oil for
that sake we need Specific gravity and to find out sp.gr we
have to know the density of the crude oil.
2. Hydrometer: is considered the simplest and the fastest method
in determination of density and specific gravity of a liquid.
3. Density: is its mass per unit volume at a given
temperature.
Relative density: is the ratio of density of a substance (Liquid)
compared to the density of fresh water.
4. Density: is its mass per unit volume at a given
temperature.
Specific gravity: is the ratio of density of a substance (Liquid)
compared to the density of fresh water.
5. m=ρV → ( 0.755× 1000 ) × 0.5=377.5 g
kg
6. ρwater =1 L sp.gr = ρ
m 185 ÷ 1000
V= → =0.15416667 L
ρ 1.2
6.There're too many reasons that makes error in our results such as the
person who is in charge of the testing maybe he/she is not so accurate
in taking results or the volumetric flask was not cleared well after the
determine firs sample or maybe digital balance was not working
properly or maybe we made some mistakes during the calculation.
