(H) 10:00AM-10:40AM (M) 2:30PM-3:20PM th Subject: Reading Grade Level: 4 IX. Self-Evaluation What accommodations do I need to make for students with special needs?
Due to the composition of both, Mrs. Hogue’s class and Mrs.
McCalla’s class, we instruct approximately 15 students with special needs. I provide the students with the accommodations of extra time, ample examples, and one-to-one assistance. Through the usage of these accommodations, I am able to provide the students with all the tools to understand the concept of main idea and key details. The accommodations are provided in a discrete manner since we are in an inclusion classroom and are determined to boost their self-confidence. Through the usage of additional examples, the students are able to more keenly identify the overall main idea and purpose for reading this passage (inform, persuade, etc.) Through the extra time, the students are able to reread the passage and find text evidence to determine the main idea and locate the corresponding key details from within the passage. Through these accommodations, all students were able to engage in and learn from today’s lesson.
