About Altona Netball Association


Altona Netball Association is an inclusive community sports association tasked with
running netball within the Hobson Bay Community. Altona Netball Association is
based at the Altona Sports Centre which has undergone two renovations in the last
10 years to help support growing participation in netball. The Altona Netball
Association also supports VNL regional representatives City West Falcons and
regularly feeds players into their player development. The association has
successfully run both a summer and a winter season since 1988 and has continued
to support inclusive development by holding regular mixed seasons and male-only
competitions on Thursday nights.

About Suncorp Super Netball


The Suncorp Super Netball is Australia’s professional netball league, following the
dismemberment of the ANZ Championship. The league is financially back by
Telstra, Channel 9, Deakin University and Suncorp and shares a player pool of $5.4
million between 96 athletes. Following a successful 2017 season, the league
introduced Bonus Points encouraging quarter-by-quarter wins and in the 2020
season has introduced the Super Shot, rolling substitutions and increased team size.
Our recently appointed seven-member board has the aim to become the number one
women’s sporting league in the world.

 Netball is played by 793,000 people in Australia and is the largest female
sport.
 304,000 players are under the age of 14 (The Roar, 2018).
 Suncorp Super Netball is available to be streamed in 8 countries, including
the UK and NZ.
 Suncorp Super Netball is the leading organisation for implementing a fair
player payment system for women athletes.
 The Australian Diamonds are ranked No. 1 in the world (INF, 2020).
 Suncorp Super Netball hosts players from all top 8 nations (Suncorp Super
Netball, 2020).
 The super shot originated from Fast5, a modified version of netball with only
five players and the ability to shoot from anywhere.
 In 2019, the World Cup Final was held in Liverpool and 112,000 people
attended, the most who have ever attended a womens sporting event in
England (UKSport, 2019).
