Behrouz Ghorbanian

Behrouz has completed degree courses in Telecommunications and
Electrical Engineering overseas. He also completed his studies in
Electrical Utility Engineering at Curtin University in 2004.
Behrouz started his career in the oil and gas industry where his role got
him involved in the maintenance and repair of electronic and navigational marine equipment
(VHF and SSB radios, Sat Nav, engine control panels etc). He then moved to the power industry
and was involved in the design, installation, and commissioning of substations mainly for
consultancies and utilities. He has also established a good reputation in teaching power
system protection over his long term services lecturing at Curtin University, and also over the
period he worked as a Protection Engineer in New Zealand.
Over the past years, Behrouz has been involved in many major projects across Australia (Port
Hedland, Barrow Island, Tamar Valley, Karratha, and Newman for example). His most recent
experience is related to cost estimation and risk assessment of major substation projects with
a special focus on the secondary systems (Protection, COMMS, SCADA). He has also worked
as an Engineering Manager and Senior Project Engineer on major copper mine projects
overseas.
Behrouz has also gained good knowledge in substation design, HV cables sizing and
installation, transmission system design, earthing system design and applications, and power
system protection design and applications.
Roger Royal Brisbane
Dip EE (C&G) Grad.Dip Rob. Senior Engineer
Roger has built up a solid 40 years of hard won experience in the
electrical power industry and this is apparent in his instructing. He has
a passion for teaching and has achieved outstanding results over the
past ten years with his courses on circuit breakers and switchgear,
earthing, bonding, lightning, surge protection, power systems protection and transformers
throughout the world.
He commenced his career in the design and construction of transformers, power cables and
switchgear with Alstom (GEC); this work included a significant degree of R&D. Roger has since
worked for numerous blue chip companies in the classical design of power systems,
transformers and switchgear. More recently, he has spent considerable time in maintenance
operations of electrical engineering assets.
Roger has carefully prepared for the presentation of this workshop, to ensure that you will walk
away with the skills you can immediately apply to your work. He is looking forward to meeting
all participants and being able to pass on his experience and knowledge.

Employees performing operations and maintenance work on high voltage electrical transmission
and distribution systems are exposed to a greater hazard than most other employees. In
industry the majority of safety rules and regulations originated from the painful experience of
workers who suffered serious injuries or even death. Therefore, rules should not be seen as a
means of limiting our freedom, but should rather be looked upon as valuable advice to ensure
safe working conditions. This training workshop covers the basic procedures in working safely
on high voltage systems including the aspects of safety management and safety auditing.
