GRADE 035 HIGH STRENGTH LOW ALLOY STEEL

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this specification is to document engineering requirements for a high strength, low alloy
steel used in the manufacture of a fan disk insert.

2.0 SCOPE

This specification covers a fully killed, fine grained, hot rolled, High Strength Low Alloy Steel
compatible with SAE J1392 (Sheet & Strip) Grade 035 PO.

3.0 DEFINITIONS

Thermal Systems Corporation, Fletcher plant that provides
specific purchased materials or services for this site.

SAE J1392 Steel, High Strength, Hot Rolled Sheet and Strip, Cold Rolled Sheet, and
Coated Sheet

5.0 REQUIREMENTS:

5.01 Mechanical Properties are for a hot rolled sheet, sulfide inclusion controlled,
killed, fine grain High Strength Low Alloy Steel compatible with SAE J1392
Grade 035 PO with the exception of elongation as noted below.

5.01.01 Tensile Strength 50,000 psi Minimum


Yield Point 35,000 psi Minimum
Elongation 2” 32% Minimum

5.01.02 Surface Control per SAE J1392

Surface Treatment: Pickled and Oiled, both surfaces Prime.

5.01.03 Inclusion Control per SAE J1392 Paragraph 4.4

Sulfide inclusion controlled, killed, made to a fine grain practice.

5.02 Certification: Cast analysis and mechanical property certification and


reports are required per SAE J1392

5.03 Subcontractor Responsibility:

5.03.01 All material supplied to these specifications must be equivalent in all


characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted
and shall be suitable for the intended applications.

5.03.02 Mechanical Property Certification and Chemical Composition shall be supplied


with all shipments with lot traceability.

5.03.03 Approved Subcontractor: Those that meet this Material Specification.
