1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This specification covers HSLA, killed, fine grain steel sheet and strip for stamping.

2.0 APPLICATION

2.1 The material is used for a disk (hub,insert) in injection molded engine cooling fans.

3.0 MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS

3.1 Material characteristics are in accordance to ASTM A1011 and A1008, including but not
limited to chemical composition, surface/finish appearance, and formability. Mechanical
properties are per Grade 80 with the exception of Tensile Strength, elongation and
hardness noted below.

3.1.1 Name of product: Hot Rolled, High Strength Low Alloy

Cold Rolled, High Strength Low Alloy

3.1.2 Surface treatment: Pickled & Oiled (for Hot Rolled)

Oiled (for Cold Rolled)

3.1.3 Certification: Per 01ES00043 (MS-10051)

3.1.4 Tensile Strength 93 ksi Min (641 MPa)

3.1.5 Elongation 15% Min

3.1.6 Hardness: Ra 56 to Ra 63 [Rb 92 - Rb (102)]

Used for incoming material inspection. Actual mechanical properties take

precedence.

3.2 Product drawing will designate should specific applications require restrictions for either
Cold Rolled (CR) or Hot Rolled (HR).

4.0 APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS

4.1 Material submitted by new suppliers to this specification must be approved by

Product Engineering.

4.2 The supplier will forfeit qualification if a change is made in material, processing
methods, testing methods, location of manufacture, or any other change that may affect
the quality of product, without prior written approval from BorgWarner Engineering.
