Around the League

Western Chase…The Omaha Lancers earned five of six points in the standings during the week and sit just three
points behind first-place Dubuque in the Western Conference. Omaha has earned points in seven straight games
(6-0-1), scoring the first goal of the game in six of those contests. All seven of those games have also been
against Western Conference foes as the Lancers are in middle of a 10-game stretch within their conference.
Omaha has 18 wins against Western opponents, the most of any USHL club within their conference. Seth
Ambroz scored the first goal of the game in Wednesday’s 3-1 victory against Sioux Falls and then netted the
game-winner late in the third period of Friday’s 2-1 win over Fargo. It was his third straight game with a goal.
Goaltender Todd Mathews made 31 saves on Wednesday to record his third consecutive victory in which he has
allowed just one goal.

Riders Buck the Bucs…The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders earned a pair of weekend victories over in-state rival
Des Moines and moved their winning streak to three. Special teams played a big factor in the team’s success as
they went 6-of-11 on the power play and held Des Moines to just 1-of-9 on the man advantage. Goaltender
Brady Hjelle earned his League-leading fifth shutout when he stopped all 33 shots he faced in Friday’s 4-0 win.
Sam Warning netted a pair for his first USHL career multi-goal game. On Saturday, Justin Kovacs scored a
th
pair of goals to help the Riders to a 6-3 victory and their 14 home win which is the second most on home ice in
the USHL.

Stars Align...The Lincoln Stars picked a pair of wins to wrap up their four-game homestand with a 2-1-1 record.
Seven different skaters accounted for goals in the victories. Defenseman Chris Casto scored the overtime
winner in Friday’s 2-1 win against Sioux Falls, which was the second straight overtime game for the Stars and
fourth time in a span of six games that have gone past regulation. Ryan Dzingel tallied a pair of goals in the 6-3
th
win over Sioux Falls on Saturday while Eric Scheid scored his 10 goal of the season giving the Stars four
players with 10-or-more goals this season. Goaltender Kevin Murdock picked up both wins as he has now
started 12 consecutive games for the Stars.

Almost Perfect 10…Team USA’s Under-17 and Under-18 squads each won their respective games during the
week to move the win streak for Team USA to five games and points in 10 straight games (9-0-1). Reid Boucher
scored two goals in Thursday’s 6-1 win over Tri-City, giving him 11 goals on the season and marking the second
straight year he has scored 10-or-more goals in the USHL. John Gibson made 26 saves to earn his fourth
straight win. He has compiled a 1.47 GAA over that stretch. Goaltender Jared Rutledge turned away 18 shots
and stopped all five attempts in the shootout on Friday as the Under-17 squad picked up a 2-1 shootout win over
Chicago. Connor Carrick scored the deciding shootout goal.

Safe Travels…The Dubuque Fighting Saints snatched a pair of one-goal victories over the weekend to finish up
their four-game road stretch with a 3-0-1 record and have earned points in six straight games (5-0-1). After falling
behind 3-1 in the first period on Friday, the Saints scored two goals in the second period to even the game and
send it to overtime. John Gaudreau scored two goals giving him five goals in a span of three games. He also
added a shootout tally as the Saints skated away with a 4-3 shootout win. Goaltender Jackson Teichroeb
entered the game in the first period and turned away all 24 shots he faced plus stopped 3-of-4 in the shootout to
earn the win. Tyler Lundey tallied the game-winner in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Youngstown. Shane Walsh
scored a goal in each game over the weekend.

Gamblers Home Cooking…In the midst of an eight-game home stretch, the Green Bay Gamblers picked up a
pair of wins during the week, outscoring the opposition 8-2 in the process. Through five games of the homestand,
the team has built a 4-1-0 record and outscored their opponents 17-8. Defenseman Markus Lauridsen scored
two goals in Thursday’s 5-1 win against Muskegon. Travis Lynch scored a goal in both wins and has now tallied
seven goals over his last eight games.

No Disadvantage…Playing shorthanded hasn’t been much of a problem for a pair of USHL clubs. The penalty
kill has been the story all season for the Green Bay Gamblers at home as they have successfully stopped 50-of-
51 power play opportunities at the Resch Center, including all 15 times they have been down a man during their
homestand. The Omaha Lancers have also been on impressive stretch on the penalty kill. Their stretch of 34
straight penalty kills came to an end on Saturday vs. Fargo. The Lancers have successfully stopped 50-of-52
shorthanded situations over the last 15 games and hadn’t given up a 5-on-4 power play goal since December
th
17 .

Puck Stopper and Passer…Tri-City Storm goaltender Scott Diebold had a busy weekend. He made both starts
for the club and picked up his fourth shutout of the season stopping 33 shots in the 2-0 victory over Youngstown
on Friday. He also contributed on the offensive side of things as he picked up an assist on the game-winning
goal. The 18-year-old netminder dished out another assist the following night and made 30 saves in the 4-2 loss
to Indiana. One of Diebold’s saves came on a penalty shot attempt in the second period by the USHL’s leading
scorer, Blake Coleman. Diebold has made 30-or-more saves in each of his last five starts.

Notes…Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Blake Thompson has continued to have his best offensive season
in the USHL as he scored the overtime winner in Friday’s 4-3 win against Sioux City. It was his second goal over
the last three games…Indiana Ice forward David Johnstone is riding the longest current point streak in the USHL
as he has compiled 13 points (5g, 8a) over the last eight games. Goaltender Jon Gillies is also riding a streak for
the Ice as he has won his last seven starts…He had to make just 12 saves, but Muskegon goaltender Paul
Berrafato earned his first career USHL shutout in the 3-0 win against Chicago on Saturday…After neither team
has scored through six rounds of the shootout in Saturday’s matchup between the Fargo Force and Omaha
Lancers, forward Nate Arentz took his first USHL career shootout attempt and converted in the seventh round
while Ryan Massa turned away all seven shooters he faced to give the Force the 4-3 win…Making his debut with
the Sioux City Musketeers after being acquired in a trade, forward Adam Krause notched a goal on Friday.
