APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for the posts mentioned above
in the University Departments. Details of Posts, Application Form, Prescribed
Qualifications, General Instructions and other details will be available in the
University website http:// www.tnpesu.org from 28.01.2020. The Last date of
receipt of filled in application is 24.02.2020 by 05.45 p.m.

Any addendum / corrigendum shall be posted only on the University website. The
University reserves the right either to fill or not to fill the posts without assigning
any reasons whatsoever.

 INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES
1. Candidates should send three copies of their filled –in applications Part – I, Part – II and
Part – III (Details of Academic Record and Academic Research Score) in the prescribed
format along with a softcopy with a CD. Otherwise the application will not be
entertained.
2. Separate applications are to be submitted for each post along with fee prescribed.
3. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks, at the Master’s Degree
Level for the SC / ST / Differently – abled (Physically and visually different – abled)
categories.
4. A relaxation of 5% will be provided, from 55% to 50% of the marks, to the Ph.D.,
Ph.D Degree
holders who have passed their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September 1991.
5. Cost of Application Form
a. All candidates : Rs. 500/-
b. For SC/ST, SCA, DW, PwD : Rs. 250/- (Attach proof)
6. Mode of Payment: By means of Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar”, Tamil
Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, payable at Chennai.
(The Name, Address and the pos

demand draft.)
7. The application fee once paid will not be refundable under any circumstances.
8. Late applications will not be taken into consideration and the University will not be
responsible for the delay

9. The candidates are instructed to ensure their eligibility for the post applied as per the
UGC / AICTE / TNPESU prescribed qualifications as given in the website before
submitting their application.
10. Guidelines regarding Counting of Past Se
Service:
Previous regular service, whether National or International
International as Assistant Professor in
a University, College, National Laboratories or other Scientific / Professional
Organizations such as CSIR, ICAR, DRDO, UGC, ICSSR, ICHR, ICMR, DBT, etc., shall be
counted for direct recruitment.

 ii. The Post is / was in an equivalent grade or of the pre-revised scale of pay as
the post of Assistant Professor (Lecturer).
iii. The candidate for direct recruitment has applied through proper channel only.

12. Age is reckoned as on 1st July.

13. With regard to educational qualification, the eligibility date is the date of Notification.
14. Reservation as per relevant G.O. of Government of Tamil Nadu.
15. In case of no qualified candidates belonging to Arunthathiar are available, Schedule
Caste other than Arunthathiar shall be considered for selection on the basis of merit.
16. Details of Post, eligibility criteria including qualification and the communal reservation
can be seen in Annexure – I appended to this Application.
17. Candidates must be an Indian National
18. Candidates who satisfy the conditions prescribed should be prepared to appear for
interview at their own cost.
19. Candidates may be called for an interview as per the list prepared by the Screening
Committee constituted for the purpose by the Vice-Chancellor. The summoning of the
candidates for the interview merely indicates that it is felt that he/she with others may
be suitable for the post and conveys no assurance whosoever that he/she will be
recommended or selected or his/ her conditions specifies in the application will be
accepted.
20. The Syndicate reserves the right to fill or not to fill-up the post without assigning any
reasons whatsoever.
21. Any attempt, by the candidate, either directly or indirectly to influence the Selection
Committee or other authorities of the University will disqualify the candidate for the
post.

22. In addition to pay, the post carries allowances as per the Tamil Nadu State government
rules.
23. The service conditions and other terms of appointment in the University shall be subject
to the approval of the Syndicate of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports
University.
24. Persons who are already working in State of Central Government/ University, Public
Sector Undertakings should send their applications through proper channel. Any delay in
sending the applications through proper channel is not the responsibility of the
University. Advance Copy of the application reaching the Registrar, Tamil Nadu Physical
Education and Sports University, Chennai-127 within the prescribed time limit shall be
entertained provided original application forwarded through proper channel reached the
Registrar office before the candidates are called for interview or the Screening
Committee meets.
25. The application form shall be filled- in, complete in all respects, giving correct
information. Defective and incomplete application and those with wrong or false
information will be summarily rejected.
26. Evidence of Experience and Degree/Diploma Certificates and all the testimonials should
be brought in original at the time of interview. Attested Copies of Certificates, Mark-
Sheets, Testimonials, etc., should be attached with the application and must be
produced at the time of interview and at the time of joining, if selected. The Selected
candidate shall produce, in original, the Matriculation or equivalent certificates as proof
of the date of birth. No other evidence will be accepted.
27. No interim queries regarding test / interview/ selection will be entertained.
28. The Candidates applying for the posts mentioned in the Advertisement and Annexure-I
appended to this application should sent their application along with two copies of Bio-
Data. Otherwise application will not be entertained.
29. The applications received after the last date for the receipt of the application, will not
be entertained for consideration and it will be rejected and the cost of applications so
remitted will not be refunded.
30. Only such of those applications which are in full shape satisfying the eligibility criteria
referred to in the Instructions to the candidates and also in the notification advertised in
the Tamil and English Dailies dated 26th January 2020.
31. Last Date for receipt of the filled in application 24.02.2020 before 5.45 p m.
32. The filled-in Application should be sent in sealed cover and name of the post with
department be mentioned in the top of the envelope.

Qualifications for the Assistant Professor

Essential Qualifications:

i). Master’s Degree in Physical Education with atleast 55% of Marks or its equivalent
grade and
ii). Any other stipulation prescribed by the UGC in the General Norms including a pass in
NET / SLET / SET prescribed in the regulations shall be mandatory.
iii). A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic performance indicated (API) based
Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) developed by UGC in the regulations
shall be mandatory.

Desirable Qualification:

(i) Ph.D., in Physical Education.

(ii) Specialization in any game / Sports with Diploma in coaching from recognized
Institution / University.

A I. A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale
wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject
from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from the accredited Foreign
University
II. Besides fulfilling the above qualification, the candidate must have cleared the
National Eligibility test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR or a similar test
accredited by UGC like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph.D.,
degree in accordance with the UGC(Minimum Standards and Procedure for
Award of M.Phil/Ph.D Degree)Regulations 2009, or 2016 and their amendments
from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET.

Provided the candidates registered for the Ph.D programme prior to July 2009

shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/Bye-

laws/Regulations of the Institution awarding the Degree and such Ph.D.,

candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for

recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in

Universities/Colleges. /Institutions subject to fulfillment of the following

conditions.

a) The Ph.D Degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode
b) The Ph.D thesis has been evaluated by at least two external Examiners..
c) An open Ph.D Viva voce of the candidate has been conducted.
d) The candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D work
out of which at least one in a refereed journal.
e) The candidate has presented at least two papers based on his/her Ph.D
work in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded/supported by the
UGC/ICSSR/CSIR or any similar agency.
The fulfillment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the
Dean(Academic affairs) of the University concerned.

Note :
NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Master Programmes in disciplines for
which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC/CSIR or similar test accredited by
the UGC like SLET/SET

B The Ph.D degree has been obtained from a Foreign University/institution with a
ranking among top 500 in the World University ranking (at any time) by any one
of the following (i) Quacquarelli Symonds(QS) (ii). The Times Higher Education
(THE) (iii) the Academic ranking in World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai
Jiao Tong University (Shanghai)
Note: The Academic Score as specified in Appendix II (Table3A) for Universities
and Appendix II (Table 3B) for Colleges shall be considered for short listing of
candidates for interview only, and the selections shall be based only on the
performance in the interview.

Essential Qualifications :

i). Atleast 55% of marks in or its equivalent grade in M.Sc., Degree in Yoga (or) Master’s
Degree in Physical Education with Diploma in Yoga from a recognized Institution /
University and
ii). Any other stipulation prescribed by the UGC in the General Norms including a pass in
NET / SLET / SET prescribed in the regulations shall be mandatory. However, NET /
SLET / SET shall not be required for such Master’s Degree Programme in disciplines
for which NET / SLET / SET aggregated test is not conducted.
iii). A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic performance indicated (API) based
Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) developed by UGC in the regulations
shall be mandatory.

Desirable Qualification :
(i) Ph.D., in Yoga.

(ii) Specialization in any game / Sports with Diploma in coaching from recognized

Institution / University.

OR

The candidate who possess the qualifications as prescribed by the UGC Regulation 2018.
