QUESTION-1
Explain in detail Digital Signature and differences between conventional signature and digital signature.
ANSWER
Digital signatures are incorporated to authenticate the sender’s identity. It is a mark that is unique to the sender
and receivers can easily make out that it corresponds to the sender. A digital signature is also used to mark the
confirmation for any agreement to a message. A signing algorithm is put to use by the sender, to sign the
message. The receiver is then made to receive both message and the signature. When the receiver receives the
message and the signature, a verifying algorithm is applied to the combination. If it bears true, the message is
accepted otherwise it is rejected. Digital signatures increases the transparency of developing trust between
vendors, business partners, and customers and online interactions.
• Difference between conventional signature and digital signature is that:-
1. Conventional signatures have to be present alongside the document that they are supposed to provide
authentication to. Meanwhile Digital signatures are separate entities on their own.
2. Unlike Conventional signatures which contains aspect of comfortability for the signing authority, foremost
effort behind a digital signature is for it to be unforgeable and authentic.
3. Tampering with the document after application of Conventional Signature is possible whereas, if the contents
of document is changed after application of digital signature, it is made to be pointed out as an invalidated
signature (Tamper-proofing).
4. Conventional signature and associated files can be related with One to many function. While Digital signature
and associated document is relatable to One to One function.
5. Time stamping a Conventional signature is rare and open to be abused, but in Digital signature, time stamping
is always present where it can be pointed towards its specific day and time.
