Crisis: Jim Perkins, a student at Albany State University, picks up a batch of tacos for his
organization from Taco Haven on August 24th. Haven on Monday morning on August 24th. In two of
the bags lied deceased baby rats. Once Jim arrived to the dorms, he sawhad seen the creatures
lying in the bag and quickly threw those bags in the trash. He figured that since there was not
anything visibly wrong with the other bags, Jim decided to keep the rest. Where Jim fell short at
is he did not take his garbage to the outside dump until August 30th. Sunday afternoon. All of a
sudden there are complaints coming from other dorm rooms that their room is infested with rats.
The rats have now populated the entire Hall 6 and Jim is thinking of suing Taco Haven.
Talking Points:
1. We sincerely apologize to Albany State University, resident students affected, and our
customers nationally.
2. We have closed the store in Albany, Georgia pending an internal investigation regarding
the incident.
3. We are renewing our commitment to fresh food, clean restaurants, and daily inspections
of our food quality and store cleanliness.
4. We believe this is an isolated event and other stores will remain open. However, but they
will be subject to our updated guidelines to ensure this does not happen again.
5. We will be paying the ASU to conduct the fumigation process for hall 6, the resident
building affected.
6. Stay up to date with our investigation and our new store procedures by following our
social media accounts. Anyone with an issue at another store can reach out to us on social
media and we will rectify the issue.
Holding Statement:
I am Renaldo Jesus III, the owner of Taco Haven and on behalf of our company, we apologize to
Jim Perkins, the students of Albany State University, our customersfans and all affected by the
disturbance of this current issue.
Because we have zero tolerance for unkept areas in the facility, I have decided to temporarily
shut down the Taco Haven in Albany, Georgia as it will go under serious health inspections and
thorough cleaning, effective immediately. Our hope is that this will allow us to condense the
infestation problem, and to as well implement new sanitation polices as they will follow the
Covid 19 regulations.
We will be hosting a “Get Clean” event in the community that will consist of surveys, polls, and
feedback from the city of Albany to help us ensure that every time you eat with us that the food
is safe and uncontaminated. The free event will be held in downtown Albany in front of Turtle
Park, and we will have representing officials from the health department and different
organizations come to speak on what it means to have a healthy yet safe establishment for all.
RSVP to attend this event on our website, tacohaven.com, or through our Facebook, Instagram,
and Twitter pages.
Today with me, we have ASU’s President, Hall 6 RA, and Jim Perkins.
Possible questions and answer:
1. How will you handle the crisis that has taken place in your business?

Owner: Taco Haven will take even more measures to make sure that we are serving from a clean
environment and that our customers’ expectations are exceeded.

2. Do you feel like you are at fault and should not be able to serve food anymore?

Owner: On behalf of Taco Haven we take full responsibility and we will continue to serve our
community as we have in the past, we will be making some drastic changes when it comes to the
way we manage our business and making sure this absolutely never happens again.

3. Should ASU be to blame for the rat infestation on Hall 6?

ASU President: We believe Taco Haven to be responsible for the incident on ASU campus,
however the students safety is our number one priority and we will be making the necessary
changes to the rules here at ASU to insure all students on Albany State campus are safe from
harm.

4. How do you think ASU will handle the sanitation policy after this?

Hall 6 RA: I believe ASU will start implementing policies that follow the health department’s
policy when it comes to cooking and eating in the dorm rooms. And we are making it a
responsibility as RA’s of these different units to enforce those policies and educate ourselves on
how we can have more cleanliness within the dorm rooms.

5. Has this changed your mind about eating at Taco Haven since the issue?

Jim Perkins: I have definitely considered not eating at this restaurant because of what happened.
I think more so now that I will be scared to open my to-go bag once I have placed my order with
them. I don’t believe a loyal customer or for any customer should be fretful to eat a restaurant
because they are afraid their food has been sitting out too long, or maybe the restaurant does not
take health precautions when preparing the food.

6. How can Taco Haven provide excellence service that comply’s with the food regulations?
Health Rep: To take a more cleaner approach, Taco Haven should be checking their inventory
weekly to make sure things are not out dated. Taco Haven can as well have their building
exterminated and sprayed down with a disinfectant to lower the risk of rodents coming through
the building.
