Schools are no longer necessary because children can get so much information available through the Internet, and

they can study just as well at home. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Education has fallen prey to the outburst of technology for many years. It is argued that this proliferation can assist most of
the students to approach to widespread knowledge and replace conventional studying method. From my perspective, this
statement is not completely right or wrong and requires careful consideration.

On the face of it, some students believe that self-study gives them conditions to find essential silence to get high
concentration. As a result, they are able to learn faster and more effectively. In addition, studying alone helps students
become more and more independent, which means they are not forced to learn subjects that they are not interested in and
have a chance to decide on their courses, timetable or reference materials. Last but not least, a further advantage of
autodidacticism is to build a stronger background by achieving certain knowledge before discussing any topics in a group
or getting advice from lecturers.

However, despite these attractions, self-study also has some drawbacks. First, teaching is not the only responsibility of
teachers. In the teaching process, there are plenty of things to do such as supervising students’ behavior or directing their
studying target which technological devices will not be able to accomplish as a traditional teacher. More seriously, at a
young age, most children are likely to be distracted from healthy learning activities by a wide variety of unhealthy online
games, not to mention the harmful effects of adult materials in the virtual world that suddenly pop up on the computer
screen while children are using the Internet. Therefore, it could be said that children's Internet use is one thing but learning
effectively from its information sources is another.

In conclusion, independent studying brings both advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, I believe that learners can
overcome these adversities by being discipline and conscious to choose what is beneficial for their target.
