Descrintion of Educational Setting:
Thomas Reddall HS has many students who are below minimum national standards in Literacy
and Numeracy. Some students with very high support needs require additional classroom
assistance in order to meet curriculum outcomes. Michael assisted the Learning Support Team by
supporting targeted students one-on-one in the classroom. Some of his duties included: writing
formal observations of student behaviours in the classroom, assisting targeted students by
scaffolding responses to class tasks, prompting students to attempt/complete work, providing
sample answers, establishing a rapport with students and being a positive role model by
demonstrating appropriate behaviours for learning. In addition, Michael supported students with
learning difficulties to access Science and Maths exams by reading the questions and assisting the
students to scaffold their answers.

Sum.mary Con:1ments:

Michael has worked very well in the Learning Support team. He was punctual and committed.
Michael asked for clarification when necessary and was willing to accept feedback to improve his
practice. Throughout his placement at Thomas Reddall HS, Michael took the time to familiarise
himself with other aspects of school organisation; he spent time in the playground during break
times, getting a feel for the school and observing student interactions away from the classroom.
Michael did his best to fit in to a busy and crowded staffroom. He was respectful and collegiate at
all times and coped well in a noisy and at times frantic environment. Michael was flexible and able
to change what he was doing according to student need. His assistance with Year 7 yearly exams
was greatly appreciated by the Learning Support team and also by the students he helped. Michael
was "thrown in at the deep end" and managed extremely well. His calm, no-nonsense approach
and confident manner meant that the students were able to complete their exams without dramas.
Michael was willing to do whatever was asked of him and adapted well to multiple changes in his
timetable. Feedback from the various faculties has been very positive; staff were grateful for his
assistance. Michael formed appropriate relationships with the students he worked with and they
were appreciative of his efforts to assist them.
