2 State Of Charge:
The SoC of a battery pack can be determined by measuring the difference in electric potential
between two terminals, known as the Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), or by integrating the
current flow in and out of the battery pack over time (known as Coulomb Counting (CC)). A
small OCV measurement error in the flat region of the OCV curve, i.e. region B in the figure
below gives a large SoC error. In addition the CC can introduce an integration error if the cell
current is integrated over a longer period of time.
Fig 12 above gives a General layout of an OCV- curve. In Region A and C, a large OCV
measurement error will give a small SOC error. In regions B and A a small OCV
measurement error will give a large SOC error.
