The 10-Item U.S. Household Food Security Scale Module (HFSSM) will
be utilized to identify food insecurity
DATA ANALYSIS
Descriptive statistics will be utilized, as described by Chaparro et al. (2008)
and include frequency and percentage of the sample subjects who
experiences food insecurity
Inferential statistics will be used to make comparison between food secure
and insecure students
Linear and logistic regressions will be used to determine association
between food insecurity, socioexonomic status, finacial statis and GPA.
DELIMITATIONS
Exclusion of subject students of age below 18 from the study
Inclusion of subject students enrolled in a university instead of acquiring a
number of subjects from various universities, covering multi-campus
participation
Subjects selection bias
LIMITATIONS
The study covers subjects enrolled in a particular university, which limits
generalization of the results to all community college students
With regards to academic performance, causality as to whether food
insecurity preceded the dependent variable (low GPA) or such existed prior
to food insecurity will not be determined
Freshmen's GPA will not be available or subject students may not
accurately report their GPAs
Likewise, demographic data and current financial status and resources may
not be accurately disclosed
