WELDING A SIMPLE JOINT BUTT JOINT

AIM:

To make a butt joint using the given two M.S. plate using arc welding.

TOOLS REQUIRED:

1. Arc welding machine


2. Mild steel electrode (3.155 mm)
3. Electrode holder
4. Ground clamp
5. Tong and welding face
6. Apron leg and gloves

PROCEDURE:

 The given MS pieces are thoroughly cleaned of rust and scale.


 The two pieces are positioned on the welding table as to butt joint.
 The electrode is fitted on the electrode holder and welding current set to 120 – 150
amps.
 The ground clamp fastened to the welding table.
 Wear the apron and leg sleeve and with the help of shield two pieces are taken and
welded at their ends.
 The struck welding is done with slightly wearing and uniform movement, during the
process. Welding electrode is kept at 70’ from vertical and in the direction of welding.
 Tack welding is done on the both end of the job.
 The slag formation on the welding is removed by using a chipping hammer and
removed the spots.

RESULTS:

The butt joint is made by using the equipment as mentioned above.
