‫ﻣﺘﻦ اﻟﻜﺘﺎب‬

‫ وﻗﺪ‬،‫( ﻓﺮأﯾﺘُﮫ ﻣُﺸﺘﻤﻼً ﻋﻠﻰ ﻧﻘﻞ ﻣﺎ ﻓﻲ ﻛﺘﺐ اﻟﺴَﻠَﻒ‬2)‫( اﻟﺴﯿّﺪ ﺟﻤﺎل اﻟﺪﯾﻦ أَﺣْﻤَﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻃﺎووس ﻓﻲ اﻟﺮﺟﺎل‬1)(‫ إﻧّﻲ ﻟﻤّﺎ وَﻗَﻔْﺖُ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻛﺘﺎب )اﻟﺴﯿّﺪ اﻟﻤﻌﻈّﻢ اﻷﻋﻈﻢ‬- ‫ أﯾّﺪك اﻟﻠﱠﮫ وإﯾّﺎﻧﺎ‬- ‫إﻋﻠﻢ‬
- ‫ ﺑﺨﻄّﮫ اﻟﺸﺮﯾﻒ‬- ‫ وﻛﺎن ﻛﺘﺎبُ اﻟﺴﯿّﺪُ ھﺬا‬،‫( ﻟﮫ وُﺟﻮداً ﻓﻲ زﻣﺎﻧِﻨﺎ ھﺬا‬3)ُ‫ إﻟّﺎ »ﻛﺘﺎبَ اﺑﻦ اﻟﻐَﻀﺎﺋِﺮيّ« ﻓﺈﻧّﻲ ﻣﺎ ﻛُﻨﺖُ ﺳﻤﻌﺖ‬،‫ اﻟﻨﺎﻓِﻊَ ﻣﻦ ﺗﻠﻚ اﻟﻜُﺘُﺐ‬- ‫ ﺑﺤﻤﺪ اﻟﻠﱠﮫ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬- ُ‫ﻛﻨﺖُ رُزِﻗْﺖ‬
.‫( إﻟﻰ ﺳﺒﯿﻞ اﻟﺮﺷﺎد‬4)َ‫ راﺟﯿﺎً ﻣﻦ اﻟﻠﱠﮫِ اﻟﺠﻮادِ اﻟﻮﺻﻮل‬.ُ‫ أنْ أﺟﻌﻠَﮫ ﻣُﻨﻔﺮداً ﻋﻨﮫ‬- ّ‫ ﻣﻊ ﻇﻦّ اﻻﻧﺘﻔﺎع ﺑﻜﺘﺎب اﺑﻦ اﻟﻐَﻀﺎﺋِﺮي‬- ‫ﻣﺸﺘﻤﻼً ﻋﻠﯿﮫ؛ ﻓَﺤَﺪَاﻧﻲ اﻟﺘﺒﺮﱡكُﺑﮫ‬

Know – may Allah support you and us – that when I looked closely at the book of (the honored esteemed sayyid) Sayyid
Jamal ad-Din Ahmad b. Tawus about Rijal, I saw that it included what has been narrated from the books of the Salaf. And I
was provided – by the praise of Allah ta`ala – service of those books except for the book of Ibn al-Ghada’iri, for I had not
heard of its existence in this our time. And this book of the Sayyid – by his noble handwriting – included it. So,I was urged
to find blessing by it - with the reckoning of getting benefit from the book of Ibn al-Ghada'iri - that I make a separate
(volume) from it, hoping for access to the path of reason from Allah the generous.

.(5)‫ وﻣَﻦْ رُدﱠ ﺣﺪﯾﺜُﮫُ ﻣﻦ أﺻﺤﺎﺑﻨﺎ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺣﺮوف اﻟﻤﻌﺠﻢ‬،‫ اﻟﻤﻘﺼﻮرِ ﻋﻠﻰ ذﻛﺮ اﻟﻀُﻌﻔﺎء‬،ّ‫ أَﺣْﻤَﺪ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺤُﺴَﯿْﻦ ﺑﻦ ﻋُﺒَﯿْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ اﻟﻐَﻀﺎﺋِﺮي‬،‫ ﻣﻦ ﻛﺘﺎب أﺑﻲ اﻟﺤُﺴَﯿْﻦ‬:ُ‫ﻗﺎل اﻟﺴﯿّﺪُ اﻟﻤﻌﻈّﻢ‬

‫ ﺛﻤﺎﻧﯿﺔ ﻋﺸﺮ رﺟﻼ‬:‫اﻷﻟﻒ‬

‫ وَﯾَﻨﺴِﺐُ أﺻﺤﺎﺑُﻨﺎ‬.‫ ﻻ ﯾُﻠْﺘَﻔَﺖُ إﻟﯿﮫ‬،ٌ‫ ﺿَﻌِﯿﻒ‬.(‫ وروى ﻋﻦ ﻋﻠﻲّ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺤُﺴَﯿْﻦ )ع‬.‫ روى ﻋﻦ أﻧﺲ ﺑﻦ ﻣﺎﻟﻚ‬،‫( ﺗﺎﺑﻌﻲﱞ‬6).‫ ﻓَﯿْﺮُوز‬: ‫ واﺳﻢُ أﺑﻲ ﻋﯿّﺎش‬،‫ أﺑﺎنُ ﺑﻦُ أﺑﻲ ﻋﯿّﺎش‬- 1 - ( 1 )
(8).‫( إﻟﯿﮫ‬7)«ٍ‫وَﺿْﻊَ »ﻛﺘﺎب ﺳُﻠَﯿْﻢ ﺑﻦ ﻗَﯿْﺲ‬

1 – Aban b. Abi `Ayyash, Abi `Ayyash’s name is Fayruz. A tabi`i, he narrated from Anas b. Malik. And he narrated from `Ali
b. al-Husayn (as). Weak, he is not to be turned to. Our companions ascribe to him the fabrication of the book of Sulaym
b. Qays.

(9).ٌ‫ وﻟﮫُ ﻛﺘﺎب‬.(‫ وأﺑﻲ ﻋَﺒْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ )ع‬،‫ روى ﻋﻦ أﺑﻲ ﺟَﻌْﻔَﺮ‬.ً‫ ﺿَﻌِﯿﻒٌ ﺟِﺪّا‬.‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ إﺳْﺤﺎق‬،ّ‫ اﻟﯿﻤﺎﻧﻲ‬،ّ‫ اﻟﺼَﻨْﻌﺎﻧﻲ‬،‫ إﺑْﺮاھﯿﻢُ ﺑﻦُ ﻋُﻤَﺮ‬- 2 - ( 2 )

2 – Ibrahim b. `Umar, as-San`ani, al-Yamani, he is called by the kunya Abu Ishaq. Very weak. He narrated from Abu
Ja`far (as) and Abu `Abdillah (as). He has a book.

ْ‫ وﯾَﺠُﻮزُ أن‬،‫ وﯾُﻨْﻜَﺮُأُﺧْﺮى‬،ً‫ ﯾُﻌْﺮَفُ ﺣﺪﯾﺜُﮫ ﺗﺎرة‬.(‫ روى ﻋﻦ أﺑﻲ ﻋَﺒْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ )ع‬.(11)‫ وﯾُﻠﻘّﺐ أﺑﺎ اﻟﺴﻔﺎﺗِﺞ‬،‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﯾَﻌْﻘﻮب‬،ّ‫ ﻛُﻮْﻓﻲ‬،(10)‫ اﻟﺒَﺰّاز‬،‫ إﺳْﺤﺎقُ ﺑﻦُ ﻋَﺒْﺪاﻟﻌَﺰﯾﺰ‬- 3 - ( 3 )
(12).ً‫ﯾُﺨَﺮﱠجَ ﺷﺎھِﺪا‬

3 – Ishaq b. `Abdul-`Aziz, the drapper, Kufan, called by the kunya Abu Ya`qub, and by the laqab Abu as-Safatih. He
narrated from Abu `Abdillah (as). His hadith are sometimes recognized, and other times rejected. It is permissible to bring
him out as a witness.

.(16)ٌ‫ ﻓﺎﺳِﺪ‬،ٌ‫ ﺿَﻌِﯿﻒ‬،‫( أﺻْﺤﺎﺑِﻨﺎ‬15)‫ ﯾَﺪْﺧُﻞُ ﺣﺪﯾﺜُﮫُ ﻓﻲ ﺣﺪﯾﺚ‬،‫ زَﯾْﺪيﱞ‬.ّ‫ اﻟﮭِﻼﻟﻲ‬،ّ‫ اﻟﻌﺎﻣِﺮي‬،(14)‫( ﺑﻦ ﺧُﺜَﯿْﻢ‬13)‫ أَﺣْﻤَﺪُ ﺑﻦُ رَﺷَﺪ‬- 4 - ( 4 )

4 – Ahmad b. Rashad b. Khuthaym, al-`Amiri, al-Hilali. Zaydi, his hadith are included amongst the hadith of our
companions, weak, corrupt.

)ُ‫ وﻣﺎ ﯾُﺴْﻨِﺪ‬.(17)‫ وﯾَﻨْﺴِﺐُ إﻟﻰ أﺑﯿﮫِ ﻋُﺒَﯿْﺪِاﻟﻠﱠﮫﺑﻦِ اﻟﻌﻼء ﻋﻤﺎرةَ ﺑﻦَ زﯾﺪ‬.‫ ﻻ ﯾُﻌْﺮَفُ إﻟّﺎ ﺑﻤﺎ ﯾَﻨْﺴِﺐُ إﻟﯿﮫ ﻋَﺒْﺪُاﻟﻠﱠﮫ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ اﻟﺒَﻠَﻮيﱡ‬.ّ‫ اﻟﻤَﺪَﻧﻲ‬،‫ إﺑْﺮاھﯿﻢُ ﺑﻦُ ﻋُﺒَﯿْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ ﺑﻦ اﻟﻌﻼء‬- 5 ) - 5 )
(19).ٍ‫ وأﻇﻨﱡﮫُ اﺳْﻤﺎً ﻣﻮﺿﻮﻋﺎً ﻋﻠﻰ ﻏﯿﺮِ واﺣِﺪ‬.َ‫( إﻟﯿﮫ إﻟّﺎ اﻟﻔﺎﺳﺪَ اﻟﻤُﺘﮭﺎﻓِﺖ‬18

5 – Ibrahim b. `Ubaydullah b. al-`Ala’. Al-Madani. Not recognized except for what is attributed to him by `Abdullah b.
Muhammad al-Balwi. His father, `Ubaydullah b. al-`Ala’ is related to `Amara b. Zayd. Chains of narrations do not go back
to him but through the corrupt and confused. I suspect that his name has been assigned to more than one.

(21).ٌ‫ ﻓﻲ ﻣﺬھﺒِﮫِ ارْﺗِﻔﺎع‬،‫ ﺿَﻌِﯿﻒُ اﻟﺮواﯾﺔ‬،‫ ﻓﻲ ﻋِﺪاد اﻟﻘُﻤّﯿّﯿﻦ‬.‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ‬،(20)ّ‫ اﻟﻘَﯿْﺴﻲ‬،ّ‫ أُﻣَﯿﱠﺔُ ﺑﻦُ ﻋﻠﻲ‬- 6 - ( 6 )

6 – Umayya b. `Ali. Al-Qaysi. Known by the kunya Abu Muhammad. Amongst a number of the Qummis. Weak
narrations. In his madhhab there is irtifa`.

ُ‫ وﯾَﺠُﻮز‬،ً‫ وﯾَﺮْوي ﻋﻦ اﻟﻀُﻌﻔﺎء ﻛَﺜِﯿﺮا‬.‫ ﯾَﻀْﻄَﺮِبُ ﺗﺎرةً وﯾَﺼْﻠُﺢُأُﺧْﺮى‬،ّ‫ ﻟﯿﺲ ﺣﺪﯾﺜُﮫُ ﺑﺎﻟﻨَﻘِﻲ‬.‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ‬،ّ‫ اﻟﺴَﻜُﻮﻧﻲ‬،‫( ﺑﻦ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ أﺑﻲ ﻧَﺼْﺮ‬22)‫ إﺳْﻤﺎﻋﯿﻞُ ﺑﻦُ ﻣِﮭْﺮان‬- 7 - ( 7 )
(23).ً‫أنْ ﯾُﺨﺮﱠجَ ﺷﺎھِﺪا‬

7 – Isma`il b. Mihran b. Muhammad b. Abi Nasr. As-Sukuni. Known by the kunya Abu Muhammad. His hadiths are not
pure, sometimes they are disturbed, and others are upright. He narrates from weak narrators a lot. It is permissible to
bring his (hadith) out as a witness.

(25).‫ ﯾَﺮْوي ﻋﻦ اﻟﻀُﻌﻔﺎء‬.ّ‫ ﺧُﻮزِيّ اﻻُم‬،(24)ّ‫ اﻟﻜَﻔَﺮْﺛُﻮﺛﺎﺋﻲ‬،‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ اﻟﻔَﻀْﻞ‬،‫ إدْرِﯾْﺲُ ﺑﻦُ زِﯾﺎد‬- 8 - ( 8 )

8 – Idris b. Ziyad. Known by the kunya Abu ‘l-Fadhl. Al-Kafarthawtha’i. Khuzi on his mother’s side. Narrates from weak
narrators.

(26).ٌ‫ وأﻣْﺮُهُ ﻣُﺨْﺘَﻠِﻂ‬،َ‫ وﯾَﺮوي اﻟﺼﺤﯿﺢَ واﻟﺴﻘﯿﻢ‬.ٌ‫ وﻓﻲ ﻣﺬھﺒِﮫِ ارْﺗِﻔﺎع‬،ٌ‫ ﻓﻲ ﺣﺪﯾﺜِﮫِ ﺿَﻌْﻒ‬.ّ‫ اﻟﻨَﮭﺎوَﻧْﺪي‬،‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ إﺳْﺤﺎق‬،‫ اﻷﺣْﻤﺮيﱡ‬،‫ إﺑﺮاھﯿﻢُ ﺑﻦُ إﺳْﺤﺎق‬- 9 - ( 9 )

9 – Ibrahim b. Ishaq. Al-Ahmari. Known by the kunya Abu Ishaq. An-Nahawandi. In his hadiths there is weakness, and in
his madhhab there is irtifa`.

‫ إﻧّﻤﺎ اﻟﻄﻌﻦُ ﻓﻲ ﻣَﻦْ ﯾَﺮوي ﻋﻨﮫ؛ ﻓﺈﻧّﮫُ ﻛﺎنَ ﻻ ﯾُﺒﺎﻟﻲ‬،‫ وﻟﯿﺲَ اﻟﻄﻌﻦُ ﻓﯿﮫ‬،‫ ﻃَﻌَﻦَ اﻟﻘُﻤّﯿﻮن ﻋﻠﯿﮫ‬.‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﺟَﻌْﻔَﺮ‬،‫ اﻟﺒَﺮْﻗﻲﱡ‬،ّ‫ أَﺣْﻤَﺪُ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺧﺎﻟِﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻠﻲ‬- 10 - ( 10 )
.(28)‫( واﻋْﺘَﺬَرَ إﻟﯿﮫ‬27)‫ ﺛُﻢﱠ أﻋﺎدَهُ إﻟﯿﮭﺎ‬،‫ وﻛﺎنَ أَﺣْﻤَﺪُ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋِﯿْﺴﻰ أﺑْﻌَﺪَهُ ﻋﻦ ﻗُﻢ‬.‫ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻃﺮﯾﻘﺔ أھﻞِ اﻷﺧْﺒﺎر‬،ُ‫ﻋﻤّﻦْ ﯾﺄﺧُﺬ‬

10 – Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid b. Muhammad b. `Ali. Al-Barqi. Known by the kunya of Abu Ja`far. The Qummis
spoke against him, but the defamation is not about him. The defamation was only with regards to whom he narrated from,
for verily he was not mindful of whom he took from, upon the manner of the Ahl al-Akhbar. Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa
banished him from Qum, but he brought him back later, and apologized to him.

ِ‫( اﺳْﺘَﺜْﻨﻰ ﺷُﯿُﻮخُ اﻟﻘُﻤّﯿّﯿﻦ رِواﯾَﺘَﮫُ ﻣﻦ ﻛﺘﺎب »ﻧَﻮادِر‬29).ٌ‫ ﻣُﻨْﺤَﺮِف‬،ٍ‫ ﻏﺎل‬،ٌ‫ ﻣُﺘﮭﺎﻟِﻚ‬،ٌ‫ ﺿَﻌِﯿْﻒ‬.ّ‫ اﻟﻤﻌﺮوف ﺑﺎﻟﺴَﯿّﺎري‬،ّ‫ اﻟﻘُﻤّﻲ‬،‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﻋَﺒْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ‬،‫ أَﺣْﻤَﺪُ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺳَﯿّﺎر‬- 11 - ( 11 )
(31).ِ‫( أﻧّﮫُ ﻗﺎلَ ﺑِﺎﻟﺘَﻨﺎﺳُﺦ‬30)‫ وﺣَﻜﻰ ﻋﻠﻲﱡ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻣَﺤْﺒُﻮب ﻋﻨﮫ ﻓﻲ ﻛﺘﺎب »اﻟﻨَﻮَادِرِ« اﻟﻤُﺼَﻨﱠﻒ‬.«ِ‫اﻟﺤِﻜْﻤﺔ‬

11 – Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Sayyar. Known by the kunya Abu `Abdillah. Al-Qummi. Known as as-Sayyari. Weak.
Careless. Ghal. Deviated. The Shaykhs of Qum excluded his narrations in the book “Nawadir al-Hikma”. In the book
which was compiled, “An-Nawadir”, `Ali b. Muhammad b. Mahbub spoke about him and said that he was a proponent of
reincarnation.

:‫ وﻗﺎل اﻟﻘُﻤّﯿﱡﻮن‬.«‫( إﻟّﺎ ﺣﻤّﺎد ﺑﻦ ﻋِﯿْﺴﻰ‬32)‫»ﺳﺎﺋﺮھﻢ‬:‫ ﻗﺎﻟﻮا‬،ِ‫ رَوى ﻋﻦ أﻛْﺜﺮ رِﺟﺎل أﺑِﯿْﮫ‬.‫ ﯾﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﺟَﻌْﻔَﺮ‬،‫ أَﺣْﻤَﺪُ ﺑﻦُ اﻟﺤُﺴَﯿْﻦ ﺑﻦ ﺳَﻌﯿﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺣَﻤّﺎد ﺑﻦ ﺳَﻌﯿﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻣِﮭْﺮان‬- 12 - ( 12 )
.«‫ وھُﻮَ اﻟﻤُﻠَﻘﱠﺐُ »دَﻧْﺪَان‬.ُ‫( واﻟﻠﱠﮫُ أﻋْﻠَﻢ‬33).ٌ‫ ﺳﺎﻟِﻢ‬- ُ‫ ﻓﻲ ﻣﺎ رأﯾﺘُﮫ‬- ُ‫ وﺣﺪﯾﺜُﮫ‬.ً‫ﻛﺎنَ ﻏﺎﻟِﯿﺎ‬

12 – Ahmad b. al-Husayn b. Sa`id b. Hammad b. Sa`id b. Mihran. Known by the kunya Abu Ja`far. Narrated from most of
the narrators of his father, and it was said: All of them except for Hammad b. `Isa. The Qummis said he was a Ghal. What
I have seen of his hadiths is sound, and Allah knows best. He has the laqab of Dandan.

(36).ٌ‫ وﻓﻲ ﻣﺬھﺒِﮫِ ﺿَﻌْﻒ‬.ً‫ ﯾَﺮوي ﻋﻦ اﻟﻀُﻌﻔﺎء ﻛَﺜﯿﺮا‬.‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ إﺳْﺤﺎق‬،(35)ّ‫ اﻟﻨِﮭْﻤﻲ‬،‫ اﻟﺨَﺰّاز‬،ّ‫ اﻟﮭَﻤْﺪاﻧﻲ‬،(34)‫ إﺑْﺮاھﯿﻢُ ﺑﻦُ ﺳُﻠﯿﻤﺎن ﺑﻦ ﻋَﺒْﺪاﻟﻠﱠﮫ ﺑﻦ ﺣَﯿّﺎن‬- 13 - ( 13 )

13 – Ibrahim b. Sulayman b. `Abdullah b. Hayyan. Al-Hamdani. Al-Khazzaz (silk seller?). An-Nihmi. Known by the kunya
Abu Ishaq. He narrates from weak narrators a lot, and in his madhhab there is weakness.

)ُ‫ وﻻ ﯾُﺮْﺗَﻔَﻊ‬،ُ‫( ﻻ ﯾُﻠْﺘَﻔَﺖُ إﻟﻰ ﻣﺎ رَواه‬37)‫ وَﺿّﺎعٌ ﻟِﻠﺤﺪﯾﺚ‬،ِ‫ ﻛَﺬّابٌ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺮِواﯾَﺔ‬،ِ‫ ﻓﺎﺳِﺪُ اﻟﻤَﺬْھَﺐ‬.‫ اﻷﺣْﻤَﺮ‬،‫ ﯾُﻜﻨّﻰ أﺑﺎ ﯾَﻌْﻘُﻮب‬،‫ إﺳْﺤﺎقُ ﺑﻦُ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪ ﺑﻦ أَﺣْﻤَﺪ ﺑﻦ أﺑﺎن ﺑﻦ ﻣَﺮّار‬-14 - ( 14 )
(40).(39)ٌ‫ ﻣَﺸْﮭُﻮر‬- ‫ ﻓﻲ وﺿﻌﮫ ﻟﻠﺤﺪﯾﺚ‬- ٌ‫ وﻟﻠﻌﯿّﺎﺷﻲّ ﻣَﻌَﮫُ ﺧَﺒَﺮ‬.ِ‫( ﺑِﺤَﺪِﯾﺜِﮫ‬38

14 – Ishaq b. Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Aban b. Marrar. Known by the kunya Abu Ya`qub. Al-Ahmar. Corrupt in madhhab.
Liar in narration. Fabricator of hadiths. What he narrates is not regarded, and his hadith are not to be given importance.
Al-`Ayyashi has an incident with him – regarding his fabrication of hadiths – that is famous.

9 – al-Hasan b. Asad. At-Tafawi. Al-Basri. Abu Muhammad. Narrated from weak narrators, and they narrate from him.
His is of a corrupt madhhab. I do not know anything in which is settled except for his narration of the book of `Ali b. Isma`il
b. Shu`ayb b. Maytham, and people other than him have narrated it.

14 – al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. Yahya b. al-Hasan. Abu Muhammad. Al-`Alawi. Al-Husayni. Known as Ibn Abi Tahir.
He was a liar. He openly fabricated hadiths. He claimed strange rijal who are not recognized. He depended on unknown
narrators who are not mentioned. None of his riwaya are good except for what he narrated from the books of his
grandfather, which others apart than him have narrated, and from `Ali b. Ahmad b. `Ali al-`Aqiqi, from his famous written
books.

2 – Dharayh al-Huharibi. Abu Sa`id Sahl b. Ziyad – and he is weak – narrated a weak hadith, that he asked Abu `Abdillah
(as) about the reports of Jabir. So he said ‘Beware of the hadiths of Jabir, for should they fall to the vile folk, they would (?)
it.’ And this is not praise or condemnation at any rate, along with that its tariq is weak. For the author of the book said
‘Muhammad b. Sinan from `Abdullah b. Jabala, from Dharayh al-Muharibi. From Abu `Abdillah(as)….

Ziyad, he is the possessor of the station (sahib al-maqam, likely corruption of sahid al-maqala, possessor of the doctrine
(i.e. of the Jarudi Zaydis)). His hadith are in the hadiths of our companions more than amongst the Zaydis. Our
companions dislike what Muhammad b. Sinan narrated from him, and they rely on what Muhammad b. Bakr al-Arjani
narrated from him.

They narrated from Abu `Abdillah (as). Abu Ja`far b. Babawayh said: Their book is a forgery. Muhammad b. Musa as-
Samman forged it. Abu Ja`far made a mistake in this saying, for I have seen their books heard from Muhammad b. Abi
`Umayr.

1 – Sulaym b. Qays. Al-Hilali. Al-`Amiri. Narrated from Amir al-Mu’mineen (as), al-Hasan (as), al-Husayn (as) and `Ali b.
al-Husayn (as). This famous book is attributed to him. Our companions would would say that Sulaym is not known, and
not mentioned in (any) report. I have found mention of him in places other than from the direction of his book, and not from
the narration of Aban b. Abi `Ayyash from him. Ibn `Uqda has made mentioned hadiths from him in ‘Rijal Amir al-
Mu’mineen.’ The book (attributed to Sulaym) is a forgery, no doubt about it. There is evidence showing what we have
mentioned about it. From it: what it mentions about Muhammad b. Abu Bakr exhorted his father at his death. And for it:
that the Imams are thirteen. And other than that. The isnads of this book vary. Sometimes by the narration of `Umar b.
Udhayna from Ibrahim b. `Umar as-San`ani from Aban b. Abi `Ayyash from Sulaym. And sometimes it is narrated from
`Umar from Aban without an intermediary.

3 – Sa`id b. Khuthaym. Abu Mu`ammar al-Hilali. His brother was Mu`ammar. Sa`id was a Zaydi. His hadith are amongst
the hadiths of our companions. He was a tabi`I – upon what is claimed – narrating from his maternal grandfather `Ubayda
b. `Umar al-Kilabi from the Prophet (sawas). He narrated from Abu Ja`far (as) and Abu `Abdillah (as). He is very weak,
and is not to be given importance.

11 – Sahl b. Ziyad, Abu Sa`id, al-Adami, ar-Razi. He was very weak, corrupt in narration and religion. Ahmad b.
Muhammad b. `Isa al-Ash`ari exiled him from Qum, declared bara’at from him, and forbade the people from listening to him
and narrating from him. He narrates mursal narrations and depends (on them).

from what other than him narrated of it (?).

Ghal, weak. I saw that he has a book he called Tafsir al-Batin that has no connection to Islam by (any) means. He does
not narrate except from his uncle. And from our companions: `Ali b. Hassan al-Wasiti: thiqa thiqa.

14 - `Umara b. Zayd, al-Khaywani, al-Madani, ally of the Ansar, and this his nisba is what `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-
Balawi al-Misri claimed about it, so it is not known except from his direction. `Abudllah was asked about him, so it was said
to him: Who is `Ammara, this one whom you narrate from him? So he said: A man who descended from the sky (or
heaven), so he narrated to me, then he ascended. Our companions say: Verily there is no one under this name. Every he
narrates is a lie. The lie is clear from the face of his hadith.

permissible to write his hadith. He narrated from Abu `Abdillah (as) and Abu ‘l-Hasan (as).

3 – al-Mufaddal b. Salih, Abu Jamila, al-Asadi, their client the slave trader (or, cattle dealer). Weak, a liar, fabricates
hadith. Ahmad b. `Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, he said: `Ali b. Muhammad b. Zubayr narrated to us, he said: `Ali b. al-
Hasan b. Faddal narrated to us, he said: [I heard Mu`awiya b. Hakim saying:] I heard Abu Jamila saying: I forged the risala
of Mu`awiya to Muhammad b. Abu Bakr. And Mufaddal had narrated from Abu `Abdillah (as) and Abu ‘l-Hasan (as).

4 – Muhammad b. Abu Zaynab, Abu ‘l-Khattab, the maimed, the maker of mail, the client of the Banu Asad, may Allah
curse him. His affair is famous. And I regard (that one must) abandon what our companions say: Abu ‘l-Khattab narrated
to us during the state of his being upright.

18 – Muhammad b. Awrma, Abu Ja`far, al-Qummi. The Qummis accused him of ghulw, but his hadith are pure, there is no
corruption in them. I have not seen anything attributed to him that confounds the soul, except for pages in Tafsir al-Batin
and what befits its hadith, and I suspect it is a forgery upon him. I saw a writing that came out from Abu ‘l-Hasan `Ali b.
Muhammad (as) to the Qummis regarding his bara’at from what they defamed him by [and deemed good his beliefs and
the nearness] of his station. Al-Hasan b. Muhammad b. Bundar al-Qummi (ra) has narrated to me, he said: I heard my
elders sayings: Verily Muhammad b. Awrma, when (the accusation of) ghulw was lunged against him, the Asha`ira agreed
upon killing him, but they found him praying at night from its beginning to its end, numerous nights, so they halted upon
their belief.

19 – Muhammad b. `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Muhammad as-Sayrfi – the son of the sister of Khallad – Abu Ja`far, who had the
laqab of Abu Samina, Kufan. A liar, ghal. He entered Qum and his affair became famous in it, and Ahmad b. Muhammad
b. `Isa al-Ash`ari (ra) expelled him from it. He was renowned in irtifa`, he is not turned to, and his hadith are not to be
written.

21 – Muhammad b. Musa b. `Isa, the butter merchant, Abu Ja`far, al-Hamdani. Weak, he narrates from the weak narrators,
and it is permissible to bring him out as a witness. The Qummis spoke of him with reprobation, doing so for much (?), and
they excepted what he narrated from the book “Nawadir al-Hikma”.

33 – Muhammad b. al-Qasim, the mufassir, al-Astarabadi. Abu Ja`far b. Babuwayh narrated from him. Weak, a liar. He
narrated a tafsir from him that he narrated from two unknown men: one of them known as Yusuf b. Muhammad b. Ziyad,
and the other: `Ali b. Muhammad b. Yasar, from their father from Abu ‘l-Hasan the Third (as). The tafsir is fabricated from
Sahl ad-Dibaji from his father with ahadith from these reprobates.
