Situation 1: Clamping device

A single acting cylinder is to clamp a workpiece when a push button is pressed. As


long as the push button is activated, the cylinder is to remain in the clamped position.
If the push button is released, the clamp is to retract. Develop the circuit diagram for
the problem.

Situation 2: Ejecting device

A single acting cylinder should be extend and push the workpiece out of the
magazine when a push button is activated. The cylinder is to retract once the push
button is released. Develop the circuit diagram for the problem.

Situation 3: AND logic operation

The piston rod of a double acting cylinder is to advance when the 3/2-way roller lever
valve is actuated and the push button is operated. If either of these are released,
then the cylinder is to return to the initial position. Develop the circuit diagram for the
problem.
Situation 4: OR logic operation

A double acting cylinder is to advance if one of two push buttons is operated. If the
push button is the released, the cylinder is to retract. Develop the circuit diagram for
the problem.

Situation 5: Retract automatically

A double pilot valve should be fitted for the control of double acting cylinder. If one of
two push buttons pressed, cylinder should be advance. If the cylinder is to reaching
the fully extended position, roller lever valve should be used as a limit valve to
confirm that this position has been reached, then the cylinder is to return to the initial
position. Develop the circuit diagram for the problem.

Situation 6: Transfer parts from magazine

A double acting cylinder is used to transfer parts from a magazine. If either a two
push button operated, the cylinder is to advance. Once the fully advanced, it is to
retract to initial position. A 3/2-way roller lever valve is to be used to detect the fully
extension of the cylinder. Develop the circuit diagram for the problem.

Situation 7:

The piston rod of a double acting cylinder is to advance when a first push button
valve is operated manually. The cylinder is to remain advanced until a second push
button operated. The signal of the second valve can only take effect after the first
valve has been release. Second push button used to return the cylinder to initial
position. The speed of the cylinder is to be adjustable in both directions.

Situation 8: Clamping device

At this drilling station, workpieces are clamped by a double-acting cylinder. Work will
be started when a push button is pressed. A brief press should be sufficient to make
the piston advance a full forward stroke. The piston does not retract until a second
push button is actuated.

Situation 9: Bending device

In a device for bending sheet copper, the piston rod advances when a signalling
element is actuated by a manual push button. The return stroke is now slowed down,
while the forward motion is accelerated. The advance stroke of the cylinder is to be
speeded up, and the return stroke slowed down.

Situation 10: Glueing device

In this device for glueing plastic parts, the piston rod advances when a signalling
element is actuated by push button. When the piston reaches the forward end
position, it presses the parts together for 10 seconds and then returns to the initial
position. The forward stroke should be slow, the return stroke relatively fast.

Situation 11: Gravity-feed magazine

A pneumatic cylinder is used to push workpieces from a gravity feed magazine onto
a conveyor belt. When a manual push button is activated, the piston rod advances.
The piston does not retract until the push button is released. Because of the weight
of the workpieces being fed in, the cylinder must also perform work on the return
stroke. This means that only a double-acting cylinder is suitable for this job.

Situation 12: Various and mixture situations

The piston rod of a double acting cylinder is to advance when a first push button
valve is actuated manually. The cylinder is to remain advanced until a second push
button is actuated. The signal of the second push button can only take effect after
the first push button has been released. The cylinder is to then return to the initial
position. The cylinder is to remain in the initial position until a new signal is given.
Develop the circuit for the situation.

Additional situation:
a. Speed of the cylinder is to be adjustable in both directions.
b. Retract to initial position will be take a time of 10 seconds.
c. Rod cylinder rapid forward travel by using a quick exhaust valve.

Situation 13: Edge – folding workpiece

The end of cylinder rod fix by forming tool to edge-folding workpiece as shown on the
figure above. The forming tools are driven by a double acting cylinder. Operation will
be start when the 3/2-way push button valve operated manually and workpiece touch
the roller lever no 1. The, edge and folding workpiece fall down automatically. Fully
extension is confirmed by a roller lever no. 2 and piston will be automatically remain
to initial position. Develop the circuit for the situation.
